Who else remembers the collective disbelief in the pub next to Portman Road, Ipswich when the not guilty verdict came through? I remember being very confused at the time of his arrest by the description of him as a ‘famous American footballer’, I didn’t think America had any famous footballers, Bruce Murray had played 150 odd times for them and no one had heard of him. Turned out he was a ‘famous American Footballer’

Derek Underwood. What a great bowler he was. His spin, bowled more quickly than usual, gained him nearly 300 test wickets, and if he had not joined the Packer series and the rebel tour in South Africa, he would have had many more. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/68818400

I was 14 when I witnessed his fine bowling at Old Trafford in the Third Test in 1977 v Australia, including a great battle with Greg Chappell, who scored a fine century.

Andrew Stunnell, former MP for Hazel Grove One of those rare politicians who was in it for the right reasons, he contributed a lot to the area...& you'd never catch him sending photos of his meat & 2 veg to a complete stranger !

However there would be other things politicians would have done in the past that were equally not a popular thing to do in that era. Its just it was easier back then to keep things quiet from their family never mind the general public. Once in the public gaze it must be hard to have a squeeky clean existance.
