Only gone 12 minutes into that clip, and it kept annoying me how he was getting things wrong and they were lapping it up. Stopped to do some quick fact checking.
Nowhere near - I checked the table from that day on enfa.co.uk and it has Watford down in 14th.
This one's closer, they were 4th
No it was only six adrift after that match. As we played on a Thursday I thought he might've meant after the other teams had caught up with their game in hand, but no, we were 7 adrift after the weekend's matches.
I should probably give a bit of leeway here, as getting dicked so often makes a lot of the games and opponents that season all blur into one, but Burnley wasn't a shellacking (2-3) and the only 6-0 was when we didn't have a manager.
But it is!
Not looked this one up but we stayed up, so must've been higher
The first two had played under Kilner, and Alby made his debut in 97/98 so this was his 5th season in the first team! He then went on to claim credit for bringing in Jon Daly, who made his debut two years earlier.
Well, I mean, I've already spent too long analyzing these claims, I'm surely not sick enough to wikipedia the dates of births of our 2003/04 squad.... safe to say it will have had a few players in it who were that age, and maybe even 18, but they would be the youngest ones in it, most of the squad were at various ages in their 20s and Palmer should include himself in the average given how much he played. It was a pretty young squad but like everything, he's exaggerating. The problem with that is his main point here is about people's perceptions and how they differ from what the bare facts tell you, but he is getting every fact wrong to alter the perception of himself!
