That's the situation of the "black lives matter" movement. Culture, laws, the arts, religion, and everyone else repeatedly suggest that all lives should matter. Clearly, that message already abounds in our society. TL;DR: The phrase "Black lives matter" carries an implicit "too" at the end; it's saying that black lives should also matter. Saying "all lives matter" is dismissing the very problems that the phrase is trying to draw attention to. so why wasn,t the slogan finished on the too word if that was what it really meant. like all piecefull protests they have been highjacked by some with a more sinister agenda. on the subject. these things will never go away until the world looks at a person as the person themselves and not the colour of their skin. there are dicks, racists , world reformers of all skins and give any of them an inch and they,ll take over. Perhaps it *should* have been finished that way but whoever came up with the phrase in the first place probably didn't anticipate such widespread misunderstanding (some deliberate) of the message, and I guess slogans are punchier adhering to the rule of three. It shouldn't come down to a discussion of semantics anyway.

To be fair the world should be reformed so I wouldn't lump a world reformer in with racists and dickheads. Trump wants to send in the military to quell the situation - that IMO would be simply pouring petrol on a fire, it needs to be calmed initially short tern and then long term but the latter has been ongoing for 100s years without much success. Now could be the time when this really kicks off big time as nearly 50% of the US military are " non-white" and if The Chief Master Sergeant of the US Air Force has pledged to do more to tackle racial injustice and says that his greatest fear is one of his black airmen dying "at the hands of a white police officer" how many of Trumps assault troops are likely to favour being involved? On Twitter, Kaleth O. Wright said he was "outraged at watching another black man die on television before our very eyes". Sgt Wright said it "could happen to me. As shocking as that may sound to some of you" and that racism, discrimination and exclusion "does not care much about position, titles or stature". "This, my friends, is my greatest fear, not that I will be killed by a white police officer (believe me my heart starts racing like most other black men in America when I see those blue lights behind me). But that I will wake up to a report that one of our black airmen has died at the hands of a white police officer," he said. The Chief Master Sergeant said he is working with the Chief of Staff to have a full and thorough independent review of the US military justice system. This could fade away as previous rioting has done over the decades but given the Trump factor it could be 12th April 1861 again - God help us all

There was a peaceful protest in Washington DC last night that were charged by police, bombarded with tear gas and flash bangs. All of this so Trump could walk to a church on the road outside and hold a bible up. On the flip side of it, 4 police officers were shot in St Louis, a police officer in New York was intentionally ran over and is in a serious condition in hospital, police officers have been shot in Las Vegas. An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind. I think America has the biggest problems due to history. The so called land of the free where people are led to believe they have the right to do whatever they want. Where their history dating back centuries is drilled in to them without realising that big chunks of that history are the root of the problem we’re seeing today. There is obviously a big issue with the black American population in the US. There’s also a big issue with the Mexican population in the US. An All Lives Matter phrase (although it may have been used in the wrong way previously) would target the bigger issue, not just a section of it.

All the protests in America are a welcome diversion for Trump for the catastrophic handling of the virus under his watch. Over here the anger against the Tories is slowly (rightly) building as they display such utter incompetence and disregard for the masses on a weekly basis but we are not (yet) on a par with what's going on over there.

The point is that All Lives Matter gives white people a way of claiming they're marginalised and oppressed, which they aren't. It's not about white people's lives mattering; white people's lives have always mattered which is entirely the problem. This is about the lives of those who are oppressed by default by systematic racism that exists in society.

Are people who aren’t treated in a way that makes them feel like second class citizens and oppressed going to make them hijack the cause? I’d say not.

Why, in response to someone saying "Black Lives Matter", would a white person say "All Lives Matter", if not to feel oppressed and marginalised like someone is suggesting that their life doesn't matter? Again, I'll quote Ice T and Body Count: That, and the other countless analogies that people have given, is All Lives Matter in a nutshell. It is ironically more divisive than Black Lives Matter and the reason for that is to so many people black lives don't matter.

all this will cause at the end of the day even more recruits and not less for both white and black power groups. "You also had people that were very fine people, on both sides"

All Lives Matter promotes unity and togetherness for all races that are treated like second class citizens. Like I said in a previous post, Mexicans are massively looked down upon in American society. Do their lives not matter or do they have to start saying Mexican Lives Matter so that white people like me or black people, can’t take the shine off their fight? Whoever you are, wherever you’re from the very least you should expect is to be treated as equal. We’re all born in the same hospitals, we’re all breathing in the same air.

Absolutely, completely agree. But not everyone is treated equally. And it's normally black people who bear the brunt of the inequality. That's why this movement is so important.

I've shared a few threads of videos of police-led violence on Twitter and I was appalled by the number of attacks on presumably innocent people (the majority seemed to be passive bystanders rather than trouble-causing protesters and some were teenage kids). In the US it appears it's open season once you're given a badge and a gun, you can always hide behind the badge and the law. Any protests or rioting due to their behaviour merely gives them an excuse to crack a few skulls. The copper giving the 'white power' sign in New York should be prosecuted, disgraceful behaviour, but you just know it'll be swept under the carpet. I feel sorry for the peaceful residents of the US; you have a racist government and police force and now Trump is classifying ANTIFA as a terrorist organisation; nothing about the far-right groups though, obviously. I know we're not much better, but at least the Tories are more subtle with their division and racism. I've also seen plenty of these videos. Here in Indianapolis we have had an 8pm curfew the past couple of days, and continuing. Last evening at the protest in the centre of the city, police began teargassing peaceful protesters (including "worship groups") at Monument Circle *before* the curfew, and pepper-spraying general passers-by at bus stops etc - including children and members of the press, who are also being arrested for performing their Constitutionally protected work. It seems to be the cops, the National Guard and infiltrators like the "Proud Boys" who are instigating some if not much of the violence and property damage. The Rude Man in the White House will of course ignore that and attack Antifa, because those are "his people" and he has consistently encouraged harm to those he considers "other" - and not just during this presidency. By the way, he has no power in law or the Constitution to declare Antifa (or any group) a terrorist organisation. Nevertheless, it is inevitable that he would try to label anti-fascists as such, and not actual fascists. It's what he is; but also he is a useful puppet for those who are *really* pulling the strings in the shadows, who strive for an autocratic white oligarchy in perpetuity. I was encouraged yesterday to see pictures and videos of police kneeling and walking with protesters; until I discovered today that in many cases, once the cameras were off the order were given to start teargassing. Your comment about the "white power" cop is revealing. Meanwhile, the president hides in his cellar, switches off the White House lights and makes a call to his buddy (or blackmailer) Putin. Police kneel when they’re putting on their gas masks. The photos taken before is good copoganda

The phrase All Lives Matter was deliberately introduced by white supremacists to diminish the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s not an all encompassing phrase. It is loaded because of where it comes from. That’s why it was chosen by white supremacists. Because it’s very easy for non white supremacists to share.

Kind of like the 'okay' sign (where you curl your thumb and index finger), but the remaining three fingers are extended fully to make a 'w' (for white) 7.0.3
