Watching All series of the Sopranos- again! So good compared with some of the other dross shown on tv. You only realise how good some actors are when you see another series with bad acting in. Best telly ever! Everything else is a distant second. Everything about it is perfect.

In May 1971 (49 years ago) JW gave an interview with Playboy Magazine regarding the Vietnam War where he gave his support for this. Other phrases were used in this interview which later resurfaced in March 2019.
Ethan, JW's son, said "It would be an injustice to judge someone based on an interview that's being used out of context."
Wayne died 11 June 1979 - yes 41 years ago.
My comment in the thread above "gone too far" was in general a comment about the status of World affairs, more so in the UK,for example BOJO saying today that there will be no Austerity for the next 10 years. Is that a statement "gone too far" considering his and the Tory Party's record over these past years?

Agreed it'll take some beating, I couldn't believe my luck when I bumped into Steve Schirripa who plays Bobby Bacala wondering round a Christmas market in New York a few years ago when the Sopranos was just coming to an end. I'm rarely starstruck but I had to ask for a picture with him, as he appears on screen he's a unit of a bloke but an absolute gent.

Is that a statement "gone too far" considering his and the Tory Party's record over these past years? I’m assuming, correct me if I’m wrong, from your first three paragraphs that you think it’s ok because of how long ago his statements were and considering he’s now dead. My counter argument would be why was it named after him in the first place? If we accept racism is unacceptable, which I’m hoping you do, then we can’t say, well that one is ok because it was ages ago. The reality is it was never ok and it wouldn’t be named after him today. It was named by a group of white business men in 1979 who didn’t give a shit what he said about white supremacy or gay people. So much so that they erected a statue of him in the concourse a few years later. In terms of the gone too far phrase, of course it’s inoffensive most of the time. Just not when defending or turning a blind eye to racism because it was a long time ago.

As I mentioned I think what was said was taken out of context and I don't believe he was racist.
As mentioned on another thread my older brother is married to a beautiful woman of Jamaican origin with 4 gorgeous nieces and nephews of mine and I was closely associated with a London based football club called Caribbean International where other than 1, the Team & Supporters were from Caribbean backgrounds.
So I think I comprehensively understand the meaning of racist and I could never be accused of that.

That buffoon who posted about the coco pops is too far. The airport is understandable. The Coco Pops thing was ridiculous, but I suspect that's because a has-been former MP turned convicted criminal wanted a bit of attention.

Think he was supposed to be doing a Q&A tour over here this summer with 'Pussy' and Christopher- assuming it didn't go ahead. I think they've done one before- reckon it would have some good stories to it. There is a film in the planning over the early years of the Sopranos but not sure where that's upto.

Give your head a wobble. www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/02/20/i-believe-white-supremacy-john-waynes-notorious-playboy-interview-goes-viral-twitter/As for your last comment, if you are white man, I’m assuming you are, then you cannot possibly “comprehensively understand”, just like I can’t or anyone else who is white can’t because we haven’t been in their shoes. I saw your previous post about your brother and that’s really nice. I’m not sure why their physical beauty has anything to do with it which you mention each time. I also remember you saying they had never had any problems with racism, suggesting maybe the problem wasn’t as bad as perceived, which to be honest is shortsighted and along the same lines as something Trump and his supporters say.

I always say the cast of The Sopranos are pretty much the only people I’d ever stop in the street for a pic. Them and Alun Armstrong 🥰.

Another quote from the Media which you have dragged up
Shan't have any further discussion with you as life is too short to educate people like you
Please don't bother to respond as your views I'm not interested in.
Enjoy the rest of your day I've got work to do.

Enjoy the rest of your day I've got work to do. Please don’t tell me what to do on a public forum. I’ll call out bigoted bull shit when I see it. They are quotes from John Wayne, not disputed by anyone, not even his family so I’m not sure why you are. If your summary from reading them is that they are out of context, out of date and he wasn’t a racist then you are part of the problem in afraid. But keep telling people the black lives matter movement has gone too far, the problems black people experience are exaggerated because your brothers family (who are beautiful by the way) have never told you they’ve had a problem. And don’t forget to think because you were closely associated with a Caribbean football team you can’t possibly be accused of racism and you “comprehensively understand”. You don’t. Respectfully, educate yourself. I recently have and it’s enlightening, shocking and attitude changing.

Johnson made a number of 'gone too far' statements with regards to different groups of people before he became PM. A lot of people don't seem too arsed. What he says in other regards you should assume is a lie, until and unless facts prove otherwise. He is a proven and repetitive liar, being overseen by a man happy to lie to the nation. Although a lot of people don't seem too arsed about any of that either.

Has some techy wizardry morphed the tv thread with the political thread?
