It’s hard to judge whether Warburton would be a good signing until we see who else comes in. If we’re going for it big and signing Danny Lloyd type players who won’t come cheap then you’d probably give Warby a miss but he might just be the type of player Jim is looking for. Different players for different positions but I’d probably take Warburton over Lloyd.

I’d have Warburton back no question. We only had him part time remember so a full time Warby playing behind the main striker would do for me. He’s a goal scorer and they are hard to find. He was a goal scorer in tier 6, as you move up, you're playing against better players who don't give you the same time & space. Think he should have tested himself in the NL to be honest, but i guess he had to take the chance. Having watched Northampton last night, can't say as i was that impressed with them overall.

Warby has made the massive bench this time. Northampton 1-0 up but still 2-1 down on aggregate.

3-0 Cobblers. Warby didn’t come on but through to Wembley vs Exeter. Week tonight. Still can't get my head round playing the finals at an empty Wembley. I can only assume it's money-related, and Wembley plc will be taking a (reduced?) cut of the TV money. It should be played at the most convenient ground for the two clubs, with adequate TV facilities and a decent pitch.

Could be that Wembley is free at the moment, while all other grounds that have the facilities (so Prem and Championship) are still being used to finish the season?

I agree but for me Matty isn’t a L2 player. He’s at a L2 club but hasn’t done anything at all to say he’s good enough for that level, and he’s untested at our level. Possibly have him back on a year with the option of a second if he excelled but that’d be it for me. I wouldn’t be rushing out to get him. thing is we are not a division 2 team yet and need to get there. we do not really know if warby is a div.2 player anyway. just because he has not really come off with the cobblers does not mean he is or isn,t. mcconville was chief loafer with us but eventually moved back to accrington to be a fans favourite. how many of us have even in kids and sunday league football gone from being more or less unused subs to another club where we have flourished.

Fair point, but tbh I don't think it's only PL or Championship that could do it; there are loads of L1 and 2 grounds that would be okay. I suppose their pitches might be being done at the moment. Using Wembley just seems intuitively daft, but as you say, there might be logical (and logistical) reasons for it.

If there's no fans what facilities do you need other than changing rooms, a pitch and a TV gantry?

I suppose from a players point of view it may be the only time you get to play there, agree it will be rubbish empty but they can still say they got to Wembley.
