Really enjoyed that thanks Sam. It underlines the fact whether we like it or not Kennedy really did back McIlroy who on paper had a great side. I'm perplexed that someone with such a great pedigree did badly with us. The only thing I can put it down to was Kennedy killing county from the inside. I really think that when it didn't work with McIlroy Kennedy sacked it off. If he had backed Turner properly or gone for someone else that side would have stormed league 2. It lead to a fire sale and then that awful rental deal with the trust and the rest is history.

Said it a few times before but Rickie Lambert told me that they were all/mostly asked to sign new contracts on reduced terms quite early on in 04/05. Those who refused, which is most of them, were sold off on the cheap.

I think it shows how uninterested he was, threw a fair bit of cash at it in the hood it would work and so he could say he gave it a go. But the minute hard work was needed he lost all interest in the football side of things and focused entirely on the egg chasing.

If my employer tried that trick I think my performance would have slipped 😱

Still remember Turner telling me what do you expect for 150 quid a week when discussing Woolski, he could have been fibbing but I can't see why.

Of all the manager’s we’ve had I still think Turner is the one I have the least respect for. He’d given up on League One before he was in the manager’s office so had no excuse to not be prepared for League Two the following season.

Should have taken his best mates (roger wylde) advice don't touch county with a barge pole.

I remember a fans forum before a Leyton Orient game and he had clearly given up on the season. We were dreadful under him in both divisions. In League Two Jim took the same group of players and got them into playoff form.

I think he thought it was going to be a lot easier than it was. You didn't have to spend too much to do something at the top level in RU at that time. Football was quite different, even at the third tier. This is why I think he did intend to give it a go when he arrived - I don't think we were makeweights until later - and I also think the latter deal was perfectly reasonable in the circumstances. It wasn't the reason we went under (although it'd have been better if another set of County fans hadn't tried to push in and thus made the Trust's position more difficult, as Kennedy was able to play us off). Also, there were some pretty awful people in the Sale Sharks set up at that time who clearly did regard us as shit on their shoes. They're the ones I had the main issues with.

Hugely sympathetic article (no criticism there). My memory of Robertson was someone who was constantly injured, and never really did much when he was fit. Really flattered to deceive. Clearly the environment he was in didn’t help, but I just feel like he was somebody who underperformed.

This has always been my view of Turner, but it was pretty robustly challenged recently by someone who knows.

Thinking through the midfield from the Carlisle game, they were all loan players.
