I was half watching this match (on reflection I don't know why, and forgive me) and I'm flabbergasted that neither the ref who had a perfect view nor VAR saw a problem with this arm to the face. Am I completely off the mark? He'd just been fouled and got the decision but looks to me like he's taken his own retribution.
Not that I really give a monkey's chuff either way about either of these teams, mind you.

I'm generally on the 'come on it's a man's game' side of these arguments and definitely not a VAR fan.. but at the same time the flying elbow is my least favourite piece of footballing agression, cowardly and ugly and it saddens me how much players get away with it. That for me is a yellow to the elbow flinger, regardless of whether he's been fouled first. Ie the ref can give him the freekick but still book him for the retaliation- I think?
