All the indications are that at present, America will tell Trump where to go in November, and it’s not back to the White House. But there’s a lot of time between now and then for that to change. And it does look especially bad there. He'll fiddle it. He's a grifteir.

He'll fiddle it. He's a grifteir. 3 years ago American Comedian/Political Host Jimmy Dore said "Trump will not leave the White House EVER, he will get his '2nd Amendment friends' to dig in and go full on Dictator" Sounded bonkers at the time... Not so bonkers now though

Hi Dave.
You’re not taking the word of the worlds biggest liar are you? That would seem silly. I’m not sure “I’ll have to see” really translates to him not leaving. I suspect if the result is close, he will claim all types of things and will challenge the result and he has the legal right to do that. I’d be more inclined to trust the law and constitution will install a duly elected president at the time the current term ends if that is the result rather than the ramblings of a mad man. I’d also like to believe the result will be greater than close and we won’t need to go down that road.

I think most people reading that post will know what I meant. We as a collective.

I can see Trump not wanting to leave office, but he wouldn’t manage it. Not with Washington’s sweetheart Biden as the candidate. A lot of Republicans would be fine with a Biden presidency; they still get their tax cuts and they get to pretend to be outraged by his actions too.
Now if the Democratic candidate had been someone less palatable to corporate America then we’d have a different situation.
I can still see him winning anyway. I know polls suggest he’s going to lose in place Republicans normally walk, and his culture war strategy isn’t as strong as his faux economic populist one from 2016, but I have learned to expect the worst.

Agree Stranded. Still a lot of twists and turns to come before November. No doubt.

All depends if the Coronavirus is under control by November, and whether the economy isn’t too badly buggered.
In January, I was convinced Trump would walk it. In July, it looks very different, and in November, it could potentially look very different again.
A common issue for the Democrats issue is that they struggle to get their voters to turn out. I can see that being an even bigger issue than usual this time round, particularly with a combination of the virus and a spectacularly uninspiring (senile?) candidate. That’s even before the potential for voter suppression etc that seems to be more feared than usual.

If Johnson or Trump had come out and said ‘To minimise the threat of the virus we’re going in to a total lockdown for 12 months’ everyone would be moaning that he’d made the wrong decision.
Giving local authorities the power to decide what’s good for them is a positive thing. I don’t see it as a way of shifting the responsibility in the slightest. If a local authority can shut down a park for social distancing breaches for example, it will get done a lot quicker than if it had to go through Boris.
There’s bugger all we can do to stop this virus. We can use common sense to try and reduce the risk but for every person that’s using common sense I bet there’s a dozen that aren’t.
