I’ve never seen anything to suggest he isn’t a very nice man as well. met him a couple of times and can agree on that. quite unlike another ex manager who slagged quite a popular player off to me at a sponsors event. i might have been part of a sponsors group at the time but was basically a stranger to him.

Agree with all the thoughts on the Main Stand abuse he receives; arguably the greatest manager the club has had and some still absolutely refuse to put aside their personal dislike of the guy. What more can he do to prove himself as a very capable and successful manager? The odd time I've sat in the Cheadle End, there are no shortage of oddballs shouting abuse at JG, same as there was when I was in there full time and some people were shouting dogs abuse at Dave Jones. But you know, Moan Stand....blah, blah. I think the point about the Main Stand is Gannon is more likely to hear the abuse from a handful of individuals directly behind him than he is from the same number of individuals in the Cheadle End or anywhere else in the ground.

I've often thought the dugout should be at the popside but they'd probably follow him like Arthur used to follow the liners.

I'm not sure that was the point you were originally making, but even if it was, JG isn't daft enough to think that oddballs in the Main Stand are the only ones in the whole ground to make those type of comments.

No, it wasn't the point I was making. The point you were making was that it's not just the Main Stand that moan at Gannon, my point here was in response to yours rather than adding to my original one. I know he'll get abuse around the ground, however the Main Stand often gets pinpointed, I think, because Gannon is in that stand too and will hear and has reacted to these people before now.

What more can he do to prove himself as a very capable and successful manager? I suspect the answer is, for many of our fans, "not be an Irish Catholic".

That's definitely the case in certain parts of the Cheadle End.
