There are a series of events and initiatives planned, but the Co-op and Help the Hatters really do need fans to get behind this fundraising campaign and help with donations. The profits from the Hatters Half, the Supporters Calendar and 'Make us an offer' auctions will go towards this appeal. There will be an evening towards the end of the season, with profits going towards this appeal. We've invested in what we hope is a very good website www.dannybergarastatue.co.uk, there has been extensive media coverage on social media, messageboards, the club's website and the MEN and Stockport Express have both carried the story. We are very grateful to the 71 supporters who have donated so far. If anyone hasn't donated yet, do you mind if I ask your reasons? Can reply on here or drop me a PM if you wish? I know the Main Stand is named after Danny and now we have Bergara Close, which is fantastic, but for me a statue is a very worthy tribute. I think for youngsters a statue would make all the difference. When I was a kid, we had the Barlow stand, but that didn't really mean anything to me. With a statue people can see the person, take photographs and then youngsters will ask questions, take an interest in our history, visit the County museum, look back at the old press cuttings and videos to learn about a fantastic period of our history. Just want to make sure there aren't any angles we haven't covered?

The very honest answer from me is I haven't donated because I don't think there's any chance of getting near £50k, unfortunately. I know that's completely self-defeating and if more people stopped thinking like that then there'd be a much better chance of us hitting £50k, and I really hope it does, but it's a huge number.
£2k raised in almost three weeks shows that, unfortunately, it hasn't really captured the imagination either which, given Danny's standing, is odd. He was never my hero and I only had a season of him but recognise what he did for the club.
I think if the initial announcement had been made and a series of events/ideas were launched at the same time (big fundraising dinner, portion of marathon takings, merchandise etc) then it might seem a bit more achievable. And I know you've mentioned all these now, but it comes across like they're afterthoughts. I'm sure they're not, but that's how it comes across to me. If there'd been the opportunity to buy some smart Casual Connoisseur-designed t-shirts/tote bags, or Over the County Culture pin badges etc on the launch day then I'd have gone in for that, no problem. Same with any Make us an Offer shirts. I'll already have what you're auctioning, but I'd probably still throw another £150 at it.
There's been decent coverage, but not a huge amount of reason to donate, beyond putting £20 on the Just Giving. That will get you so far, but it's all the stuff I've mentioned above that will get you further. And sadly it looks like it's going to be needed because, as others have said, 71 donations after three weeks isn't a flying start and £50k seems an awful long way off.

To provide fans who haven't donated with confidence, it's worth noting that the Co-op have raised nearly £80,000 for the Guardian Account and Help the Hatters are also very experienced fundraisers. SCAN have also agreed to work on an event with us. The £50,000 target is attainable and in the very unlikely scenario that it isn't, all donations would be refunded, so there isn't any risk.
The events and initiatives were always part of the plan. Fans will see significant leaps after the completion of the Hatters Half, the supporters calendar, make us an offer auctions, etc. and I hope that will give them the confidence to donate themselves. The Co-op were discussing an evening, but we've been approached by SCAN and we will be working together with them on a fantastic event at the end of the season. There are also merchanidising ideas which are in the pipeline.
There will be a printed brochure launch to supporters at the start of the season and we will emphasise the events and initiatives to give fans the confidence of how we aim to achieve our targets.
There certainly isn't an expectation that fans raise £50,000 through donations alone, but we do need them to get behind this campaign. If supporters could raise (as an example) £10,000 via donations, that would go along way to supporting the other activities. There is also going to be the opportunity to donate at home matches and the Co-op will have a prominent new location next to the Cheadle End turnstiles every game.
The Co-op and Help the Hatters have invested in this too financially and also in developing a good website.
We just need more fans to get on board and support us to grow the fund and make this tribute to Danny a reality! Personally speaking I think it is long overdue.

From my perspective it makes sense the co-op drip feeding in news and events to support the fund raising. I am no marketing expert but I do know that when embarking on a long term campaign you don't put all the initiatives up in the first week, it is just as important to have a longer term plan to feed in things to maintain the relevance of the campaign. I am sure the co-op weren't expecting to raise fifty grand in the first month.

He was never my hero and I only had a season of him but recognise what he did for the club. thats the big problem. all younger fans under their early 30,s have is poor quality footage of those days which are hardly an inspiration. i,d feel just this way if it was a jack connor statue or other County personalities that were around before my day.

There is still a sizeable fan base over 30 / 35, that will remember Danny.
The supporter's organisations are playing our part with significant donations, development of the Danny website and a full publicity campaign. This will be backed up by events and initiatives throughout the season.
We just need more fans to get behind this too. I would have thought that the majority of County fans would want Danny honoured with a statue?

Captain Fantastic backs the Danny appeal!
Mike Flynn was signed by Danny Bergara in 1993 from Preston North End and quickly became a fans favourite, winning the supporters' Player of the year award in 1993 - 94. Mike captained the side to promotion to the second tier of English football, fourth round of the FA Cup, northern final of the Football League Trophy and the semi-final of the League Cup. In total Flynn played an incredible 66 games in the fantastic 1996 - 97 season! Please support our campaign and donate via - www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dannybergara
