No rumours you can share? I don’t want to be one of those nose tapping ITK dickheads and I do usually share stuff but will keep my counsel atm. From what I’ve heard, Fryers space in the squad won’t be vacant long. Someone Challinor has worked with before. Sure someone with reasonable lower league knowledge can take it from there. Been mentioned on the podcast tonight actually mate. Good shout for me 👍

Ryan Johnson at Port Vale...just been mentioned twice on 'The Scarf Bergara Wore' 6'2" Left Centre Back with Challinor at Hartlepool last season Wiki (so take with a pinch of salt) - ''Johnson is left-footed. He has been deployed at left-back and centre-back throughout his career. He prefers to play as a centre-back. Described as a "ball-playing defender" during his time at Hartlepool, he was utilised as the left-sided centre-back of a three-man central defence during the 2020–21 season.'' Sounds like the right sort of cover/competition for Kitching. 39 apps for Hartlepool last season, 8 for Vale this one (4 in league). 25. Anyone remember him when he played against us? Not a ''big name'' signing but sounds sensible as a Jan acquisition with potential to grow and someone DCh knows well.

Also not played very many games at Port Vale this season.

btw, reading the Vale fans forum, they feel Rodney (remember him) might be moving on

Played consistent football for Kiddie for 2 seasons in the NLN before Hartlepool too. I agree he's not ''a Madden'' but that didn't work with Barclay (or Fish or Fryers) and you're going to be limited for options in Jan as our rivals aren't going to want to lose players to us (any lower is a gamble) and the best players from the league above will be playing regularly and they or their clubs won't sanction the move without a serious payday. Add to that, that we're looking more for cover/competition than someone to slot straight into the 11. I've got much more confidence in DCh picking players than SR or SW despite his limited time with us, especially if he's managed him recently. Ultimately we could all be barking up the wrong tree! Though he fits the bill - ex-Hartlepool, played at this level, not getting regular game time in league above, can develop, can play LCB or LB.

Sounds like by far and away his best season was under Challinor in a back three. Would prefer a loan to the end of the season rather than a long-term contract.

Potential new signing here! Wonder where he'll play though. I thought he really struggled playing wingback or up top under Rusk - very much a square peg in a round hole - then found form and was probably our best player playing in his natural position off the left. That's no longer available but I expect he could do a similar job to Crankshaw behind the strikers and who knows he could be another that's transformed under DCh. No doubt our squad will be stronger when he's back fully fit. EDIT Suppose we could also play 3-4-3 if Madden wasn't available. We tried that under Rusk though and got broken on far too easily with simple balls from the back cutting through the middle of frontline and exposing our midfield (memories of Notts away). Could be a different proposition under DCh though. Could see Whitfield potentially play as a central midfielder in our system has energy and intensity to press like Collar and Croasdale in there and also as left footer could balance things out nicely in there

Could be wrong. I see him as both footed to be fair, though now mention it didn't he take pen at Notts with his right Either way I could see him being an option in there As people said current shape their is no obvious natural position for him, but he's versatile, has right attitude and also would allow us to change shape in a game if we have to

Wiki also says; “He left Hartlepool at the end of the season, with the club stating they could not match the offer Johnson received at his new club.[41]” Thats totally true. DC wanted to keep him so must have thought he was good enough for div.2. Possibly seen more of him than most on here thanks to the live stream and i rated him. Not quite as good as kitching getting forward but was defensivly better.
