A licence application has gone in for an al Phil licence for the building on the corner of Piccadilly and Petersgate (opposite the Co-op bank) from Stockport Bistrotheque - strangely only Monday to Friday - surely you’d get a licence for all seven days just in case.
Anyway am glad it will be open as a bar/restaurant/cafe or whatever as it is a great building and perfectly placed to be a success

There’s going to be loads of new residents and a brand new bus station next to the Crown in a few years so it should prosper. You'd think the Travelodge would have been a major boost, most people spending a night or two away from home would check out the nearest pub, I know I do. Yeah, with the George, pineapple and crown, then that's 3 closed down pubs on that short road with the travelodge in the middle. Where's nearest pub then? Comfy Gill or chestergate?

Interesting choice of location. I know that all roads lead to Merseyway (I believe that's the saying?) but wouldn't fancy having to be dashed there during rush hour. On the other hand, I'd be glad to see Stepping Hill go (despite being born there). Too cramped and outdated every time I've had to go, Wythy is light years ahead.

I don’t see how it works. They’re saying there’s no room to grow at Stepping Hill which is fair enough but you can’t fit all that they’ve got there on the Debenhams and multi storey site. Will be interesting to see the plans. Suspect they’ll get a fair whack for the land at Stepping Hill as well. Prime location for a big housing estate.

Agree. That could help finance the build. I think it is a good location for it. Will bring a lot of people into the town centre for work etc.

I think they're trying to fit it all in by going upwards. The renders show the tallest building being as big as Regent House (13 storeys)

The location they’re touting seems a terrible choice on an already busy A6 in the town centre.
Be better off building half at/near Mirlees, move some of the existing over to there when it’s done, then build the rest when Stepping Hill is empty, gradually over time.
