He had a great game. Distribution tonight was spot on too barring one back pass that he shanked which thankfully went to Madden. He’s not half bad at picking out Wootton. His distribution is better than Jaros in my opinion, Jaros goes for shorter to mid range kicks and when kicks long has nowhere near same distance Generally we either roll it out or play short 5 yard pass to Horsfall or Wright anybody can do rather than those clipped balls to wingback see other keepers try or we go back to front into Wootton which Ben is miles better than Jaros at finding as he can get it much further up the pitch, seen that when Jaros went off at Salford, Ben came on found Wootton who flicked on for Hippo leading to goal, did that couple times that game It was also outstanding against Crewe and very good again last night It's never been a huge issue for me at times erratic but largely decent Ben's greatest strength when someone is one on one with him. He generally wins by spreading himself.

Some of his recent games he has really been a spectator and can take little credit for the clean sheets he has got. Mind you it aint his fault and long may this continue.

Said it plenty of times, but he’s our greatest ever number 1.
Forgot 300 appearances, I’d like to see him hit 400.

No, i,d prefer a better keeper coming in whilst Ben is playing well and not to replace him if he goes off the boil a bit. You cannot stand still in football and need to be looking to improve all the time with head ruling the heart all the time.

Replace him whilst he’s keeping more clean sheets than not? Drop Paddy & Wootts whilst they’re playing well and scoring rather than wait for them to go off the boil. 🥴

He’s not saying bring in new players in order to drop him. We’ve slowly and surely been improving our squad in every position since Stott has been here, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be doing that between the sticks.

We have to start planning for life after Ben as sad as that sounds. I've been very happy with his performances of late and he's rightfully regained the no.1 shirt (even with Jaros' injury) and deserves another year on his contract. But we should be looking for a quality GK in the summer to challenge Ben again and be ready for the future - though Ben seems to be getting with age!

The same goes for any position, if we can upgrade without breaking the bank then it's the right thing to do, there is room for sentimentality in football but only upto a point, all players move on at some point.

Does anyone have stats on his goals conceded/clean sheets vs games played? Knock yourself out: fbref.com/en/comps/16/League-Two-StatsMuch more stats are recorded now we're in the EFL. Interestingly our overall CS% (50%) is second only to Orient (63.6%) despite having the 7th best defence in the league by goals conceded. Their save % is a whopping 82.5% to our 69.6% - of course that doesn't account for the quality of the shots taken though. Ben is joint top of the individual GK CS% on 63.6% with Orient's keeper. Jaros is in fact joint 4th with 45.5%. So based on the above stats, we're good at keeping clean sheets but when we concede it's usually a few. In reality, I think it just reflects the massive difference between the first and second quarters of our season though. There's loads of interesting stats. If I get particularly bored (or more likely addicted to County content if we continue our form) I'll do a post picking out some. Edit - Maybe at the halfway point then we (or me!) can see what's changed by the end of the season?

I know he's had more than a hundred clean sheets

I know he's had more than a hundred clean sheets 114 clean sheets. Conceded 301 goals in the 297 games he's started (CBA seeing if he's been sent off or subbed injured then we've conceded*). He's come on as sub in 2 further games where we haven't conceded. *Edit - It was actually very easy to check. He hasn't so 301 goals conceded in 299 games.

I took it more as an emotional thing. Let Ben go out on a high. Rather than hang on that bit too long, start making mistakes, become unreliable and end up with a lot of people remembering him for the mistakes as much/if not more than the good games. A decision a lot of footballers have to make.

The best signing we’ve made in a decade I’d say. To have such a good, reliant number 1 is absolutely massive for any team and we’ve got that in Ben. It was clear when JG brought him in we were in desperate need for a solid #1 and he certainly hasn’t let us down. An absolute hero IMO.
