Great stuff.. you asked the sort of questions that I'd like to hear answers to. I'm glad it still pisses him off about the change of kit colour... not because I want him annoyed, but simply because he understands the clubs history.

Inspired by the songs suggested by geordiehatter, and to take my mind off last night's performance at Salford, I've had a go at compiling my own list of songs around the topic of broken hearts: 1. "Barbed Wire Blues" by Wilko Johnson. In which the late lamented scholar of Icelandic sagas, astronomer, songwriter and guitar hero describes his attempts to escape an abusive relationship. "That's the last time that I saw her; staring at the sunset with a hammer in her hand." I'm sure we've all been there... Also contains a cracking riff and the usual Norman Watt-Roy bass masterclass. 2. "The Lark" by Kate Rusby with a guest appearance by Nic Jones. Not a dry eye in the house whenever this one crops up, especially if you know Nic Jones' back story. My other half calls the Barnsley Nightingale "That weary woman" but there's no denying that La Rusby has a way with a lyric. "Is it wrong to wish you still need me?" indeed. 3. "Buzz Buzz A Diddle It" by Freddie Cannon. Is the object of your affection's phone always engaged when you try to ring her? Could it be that she's being swept away by some other silver tongued admirer? Best get on to the operator to get her to intercede on your behalf. 4. "The Boys Of Summer" by Don Henley. Girlfriend dumped you the very minute that more glamorous suitors arrived for the holiday? Don knows what that's like. West Coast Americana isn't normally my thing but it's a jolly enough tune and the little variations in the chorus on this one are very clever. 5. "Corner Of The Room" by Oysterband. Still coming up with bangers forty years in, these lads. The message here is that sometimes you only realise what really matters when you look back, and by then it's too late and everyone's moved on.

For the first time in nearly three months, we’re reflecting on a County defeat today, as Andy Thurston and Simon Lomas share their thoughts following the first leg of the play-off semi-final at Moor Lane on Saturday night. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/salford-1-county-0

Over the next seven days, we’ll be concentrating entirely on Sunday’s League Two play-off final, as County make the trip to Wembley for the sixth time. After heartbreaking defeats in 1992 (twice), 1993 and 1994, Jim Gannon’s men finally broke the hoodoo against Rochdale in 2008. Having lost just once in our last fifteen games (and that was an injury-hit line-up at Salford), fingers crossed Dave Challinor’s current crop can emulate Dicko, Pilks and Co when they run out at Wembley this weekend. For approximately 71 minutes on Saturday afternoon (68 in normal time and 3 in the extra half hour) it was our neighbours who were gearing up for a trip to the capital. But… well we all know what happened next, don’t we? Not one, but two unbelievable Edgeley Park moments. I’m currently writing a long read feature myself covering the whole day from start to finish, incorporating lots of different aspects of a County matchday in SK3. That’ll take me a week or two to complete. But we couldn’t possibly kick off WEMBLEY WEEK without any mention of Tanto, or Stretton, or the bloke we have “in the middle of our goal”, so here’s the thoughts of Dave Philbin on an unforgettable afternoon at EP. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-2-salford-1
