With three games remaining, County need just one more victory to clinch the League Two title. The first of those opportunities comes in Nottingham this evening. Ed Chadwick, Jonathan Baker and Ian Brown join us ahead of what could be a famous evening at Meadow Lane. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/notts-county-v-county

Thank you for an excellent piece that seemed to be especially written just for me. There can't be many County fans of 50 years standing who have previously stood for years on the Churchmans cheering on Johnson, Whymark, Beattie et al and then Muhren, Brazil, Butcher and co. As a youngster, born and bred in Woodbridge, I was brought up - correctly - to support my local team, when my friends at school were all Utd or Leeds "fans". How I laughed when they were forced to eat humble pie in the late 70s and early 80s. I came to Uni at Manchester in 1974 (hence my name on this board) and wanting to watch some live football regularly decided to pick County - initially out of curiosity, never having seen lower league football. And was immediately hooked - sort of. I was a regular in term time watching the likes of Johnny Price and Steve Massey terrorising 4th division defences (occasionally!). After Uni I came rather less, but when I got marred and my wife (a Mancunian) suggested we should watch a team we could both support (after taking her to the occasional Town game locally), I suggested rekindling my support for County. So we have been coming regularly (season ticket holders now) since 1990. I reckon my first team is now definitely County as I sometimes get texts from my daughter saying, "Ipswich are winning" on evenings where I'd forgotten they were even playing. And talking of daughter - she was also brought up correctly to support her local team, despite her mates at school all being City. She's really invested and has stuck with the team all through the dark days (more of those than bright ones during her supporting life until recent times), going to places like Guiseley and Brackley to watch us be awful and lose. I'm so pleased for her and judging by the number of mascots on a matchday, there are plenty who are also being brought up the right way! Once again, thanks for an excellent and (for me) nostalgic article. PS: How many County - Ipswich connections are there? I reckon its an inordinate number considering how far apart the teams are geographically. Armstrong, Dinning, Cooper, Kuqi spring to mind immediately and I'm sure there must be others

It’s not every day Stockport County win a Football League title – in fact, the last time it happened was 57 years ago – so we’re shouting our success from the rooftops, with 14 champion-flavoured articles over 14 days. Today, we’re reliving the night County clinched top spot at Meadow Lane, with Tom from Notts County Talk and home and away Hatter Dave Philbin. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/notts-county-2-county-5

All of them are approachable and none have a "do you know who I am" attitude - a legacy of Bobby Robson I believe. They all spoke highly of County. The only time I went to Portman Road was when County were playing and as we were regularly heading along the A14 were seen as "proper" supporters unlike the SKY season ticket holders that thought watching on the TV was the same as watching the game live. Quite a few mates down there still keep in touch and are pretty nervous at the moment. They were in touch before we exited Meadow Lane on Tuesday. They were pleased for me and the missus just in the same way that we will be chuffed for them should Ipswich go up.

This is a late one from me tonight, but it’ll give you something to read in bed, either right now or when you wake up in the morning. I’ve had a look back at five games over the course of the season which I feel were pivotal in our title/promotion success. Let me know what games you’d have chosen! thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/5-key-games-that-helped-county-win

For today’s edition, we’re rewinding to last Tuesday, the night County were crowned League Two champions with a stunning 5-2 win at Notts County. John K Bilsbury, Barmy Blue Army and Hannah Brown were all at Meadow Lane to witness yet more history being made by Dave Challinor’s men. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/thermal-underwear-a-107-uber-and

(Sounds horrific though.)
