Have a look on google maps. it will give you an idea of where the boundary starts and ends. There used to be a zone ends and zone begins on either side of the lamppost. I hope I'm not boring everyone with this, but here goes anyway... Looking on Google maps turned out to be a double-edged sword. On the plus side, it shows that there was a "Zone Ends" sign on the lamp post across the road from where we parked. Happy days, JKB leaves court an innocent man with no stain on his character. On the minus side, I don't think that sign is there any more, so perhaps something has changed. More investigation required on Saturday. View AttachmentIf I’m understanding the picture correctly that sign is on Dale Street as you come nearer to the stadium from the Petersburg road end. If that’s the case then I can see how the zone would end there as it’s very close to the ground. Not too up to date on my Rod signs either but I would have expected a zone end to look different than that. It’s all very compelling !

Correct, the Zone ends (I believe) just before the traffic calming chicane as you head down Dale Street from Petersburg Road.

Slight typo in my response as it should have read “can’t see how it would end there”. The zone is in place on Hardcastle Road itself for instance so would be a little crazy for it to end around 50 metres away on Dale Street just to start again up the road/round the corner.

I think (there's that word again!) that Hardcastle Road is Zone 6 and Zone 4 starts where the signs in the photos are but that's something else I need to check. Apropos of nothing, I used to know a lad called Dale Street years ago, a member of the Derbyshire Caving Club. It wasn't until years later I found out that wasn't his name at all but he used to badger people for a lift back there at closing time in the pub.

You'll all be on the edge of your seats for the latest in the saga, so here we go: I had a look around in daylight and found that Hardcastle Road isn't in a Zone per se, the parking restrictions there are dealt with by yellow lines and parking restriction signs. Zone 4 does indeed start near the chicane on Dale Street and goes almost all the way to the end of Stockholm Road near where Bakery Bridge used to was. The Zone 4 entry and "Zone Ends" signs are all in place at both ends so there really is no basis at all for issuing tickets outside the Zone. This was confirmed by the Civil Enforcement Officers (they aren't Traffic Wardens any more) who were dishing out yellow perils to cars parking inside the Zone without permits yesterday. Their advice about the incorrectly issued tickets was "Keep appealing." This picture shows the Zone entry signs on Dale Street yesterday. The two cars beyond the lamp post got tickets.

Here's the view the other way, towards Hardcastle Road, showing the "Zone Ends" sign.

You beat me too it. Looks quite simple for those who park and those enforcing the regs.

If you can afford it and feel really hard done by its time for you to have a word with a solicitor, if possible an out of town one which with my experiances of them and local councils is a big help.

I wouldn't rule it out because being able to park where I do is important to me. The next step, though, is to wait for a "Notice To Owner" to arrive in the post so I can appeal against the rejection of my *initial* appeal. The council won't brook any correspondence outside the standard procedure.

There does still seem to be a number of drivers who are willing to ignore the restrictions though, walked past Clywd avenue yesterday which has restrictions clearly marked and people were parking up almost directly under the signs. I do wonder if many of those getting tickets recently are part of the in teased crowds and are just oblivious to things.

Just thinking about punishment fitting the crime. 70 quid if you pay up. I was done 100 at morrisons a few weeks back reduced to 50 if i paid up in a certain time for overstaying my welcome by 15 minutes. Not in stockport by the way. 100 quid for parking. Same as allowing your dog to shit on the pavement and leaving it. Know which i find worse.

If it was an honest mistake and a one-off visit somewhere I'd just pay the £35 and damn their eyes but as this is somewhere I like to park at least 25 times a year, i think it's worth pursuing.

Totally agree and hope the b*stards do not grind you down. Why does dealing with councils and parking companies seem so difficult and they,ll do everything in their power to P you and others off at every single opportunity. Its not just parking its every aspect of dealing with anything council related where utmost patiance and a not give up attitude is the name of the game.

Presumably you have to get there early to grab one of those places so could you grab a space on the car park across the Rod by the reservoirs ? Won’t resolve the outstanding ticket issue but could work in the longer term and is only a few yards further away.
