Jack Stretton is a top player. I think we will look back in a few years and be so thankful we signed him. Including today if you add all his minutes together he’s still only played two 1/2 games. Tanto if you add his has played over seven. Despite the disparity I’d definitely say Stretton has made more impact.

Is Horsfall the best header of a ball we have had since Mike Flynn..........................unreal how many headers he wins without fouling. Come on, Ash Palmer won every header he went up for! If we’re talking about defensive headers then Horsfall wins.

Ash feels like an heroic figure in the same mould as Mike Flynn, he would put his head where it hurts and never flinch Horsfall is a much more measured player, he has a real calm about him If all three went up for the same header I’m calling Flynny and Ash to spark each other out cold and Horsfall to come away with the ball🙃

Couple of really nicely timed blocks today.

Couple of really nicely timed blocks today. Horsfall made an outstanding tackle at Ajiboye's feet in the first half that resulted in one of the Sutton number 16s many theatrical turns (though the best moment was when he managed to get tackled by the corner flag). He also was responsible for the outstanding goal line clearance moments after Ben's excellent reaction save. I got sent a video of that scramble from the Sutton end and those two did brilliantly to keep them out. Ash was (for my money) our best defending defender for a very long time. Up there with the likes of Gareth Owen and Ash Williams and adjusting for level probably better than both. Horsfall is a better all round defender though, I have to admit. Still miss Ash mind.

Tanto if you add his has played over seven. Despite the disparity I’d definitely say Stretton has made more impact. I’d disagree - Tanto had a good impact in his first few games. He’s faded, but mainly because we’ve been pumping the ball miles over his head. He does need to learn when to drop deep and combine a bit better at times, rather than always looking to run in behind, but that’ll come. If we play to his strengths he’ll be an excellent player for us. Was more worried about Stretton, so I’m delighted he got his goal today - hope this does his confidence the world of good and he kicks on from it.

Tanto's first touch isn't there at the moment, but I think it's lack of match sharpness. He's basically not played at all this season before coming to us (unlike Stretton who was having a good season at Carlisle). I think Tanto will come good for us, he just needs time, opportunity, and the right balls playing to him. He won us a free kick in a dangerous area today which easily could have been a penalty.

Great result.
First visit to Sutton for me. As an outfit they didn't really feel cut out for the Football League (only 2 staff serving on the portakabin bar etc.), but friendly enough. The stewards were singing along to County songs.
Not a particularly inspiring performance. Stand outs for me were Wooton, Horsfall (can see the Flynn comparison), Croasdale, and Ben.
Got to put a real run on now. The quality and grit is there. Down to them to just go for it.
Well done either way to Challinor, what a manager he has proven to be.

Credit to DC for going with Stretton today, he caused a few problems for Sutton. Leaves Paddy nice and rested for Monday too, although I wonder if Stretton will get the nod again.

Always offers a goal scoring threat - could have / should have been taking the match ball home after playing away at 3rd best home side in the league ( as it stood at kick off ).
Limited minutes, the lad is just warming up 👍

A good reflection on the game from them. First 30 seconds of it sums things up for me - teams watch other teams and learn how to beat or at least nullify them, as has shown over the past couple of months, as we’ve approached games with the same formation and starting 11 each time.
When DC changes our shape and our starting 11 it makes life a lot harder for the other team, as their entire game plan (I.e get Wootton on the floor) goes out the window. We have the quality to do this game to game so I really hope we have the confidence to change it up regularly. We had the same result against Northampton in January too, where we went with a 4222 or 433 and they didn’t know how to deal with it.
More of this please!!!
