How about when Bradford City were in the Premier League in 2000, Salford finished 11th in the North West Counties Division One, below Fleetwood Freeport, Skelmersdale United and Prescott Cables? Would be great if we had a Salford fan from that era come on here, or maybe even an interview with Des jnr. They’re probably both busy.

Not related to the playoffs at all, but a fact that I found amazing this weekend. Morecambe's relegation was the first in their 103 year history. That is stat of the season, Phil. Cracking stuff.

Couple more stats. We were unbeaten at home against the bottom half of the division.
Only five sides we didn’t beat either time, away or both.

I get that Salford can be a stubborn and tricky opponent but we bossed them in the 0-2 last October. That day was like a home game and our superb support were immense. Same with Bradford and Carlisle, taken 4 points off both, nothing to fear

Can’t picture us at Wembley yet, but hope I’m proven wrong. That will most likely be a pain in the arse too. But we’ll have to see yet! Per Wembley, delighted it's won't be Salford at Wembley, would have found that hard going rattling around in there. At least with Bradford or Carlisle we're guaranteed am respectable attendance. No one to fear, just have to respect them all and be as close to our best as possible.

Playing Salford at Wembley in the final would of been the crappest outcome, 20-25K rattling around a 90K stadium would of been dire. At least if we get past Salford we'll face a side with a decent following in the final. But I really think it's time to move play off finals from Wembley all together, All northern teams in the playoffs this year, cost of living crisis, continuous travel disruptions with the railways, carbon footprint, would make far more sense to host the final somewhere like Old trafford rather than trekking to Wembley, then in future finals decide a venue that's suitably big enough & equidistant to the two finalists. Also stop using Wembley for F.A. cup semi finals, totally devalues the competition IMO.

I absolutely agree with all that but given how much the FA owe on building the new Wembley, nothing is going to change for the foreseeable.

I also agree in principal but it’s impossible to organise a football match potentially with 50k+ fans at a week’s notice, it just doesn’t work that way. Old Trafford is big enough and relatively central in terms of transport for most of the league, but they’d have to decide in advance and it could end up being Forest Green vs Exeter, there’s no way around it.

Can't have it at OT -home advantage for Salford -would you really want to set foot in that place anyway? No way they're getting any money out of me (and they would either for hosting or the catering)
Agree it doesn't make sense for this year's play off at Wembley but that's never going to change as Wembley has to be paid for. The fans don't matter in their eyes. You can see this from the venue changes, date changes in recent years. Fans are the last to be considered, we should just be grateful to be going there at all in their opinion.

United are at home to Fulham that day so it's a non starter anyway. To add insult to injury the final is an early kick off to accommodate Sky and the last day of the PL too.

Yeah, to be clear I mean it’s a non-Wembley stadium that will always be big enough to hold the game, arranged in advance. But fixture clashes are another reason you can’t just wait til the finalists are known and pick the nearest large stadium.
