I'd take Wembley though over Hillsborough / Villa Park, neither of which would be that much more convenient and don't come with the same appeal / fanfare as a trip to Wembley (with the additional option of making a weekend in London out of it). I take the point of rattling around in there, but I'm sure if we play Carlisle or Barford and it's 3/4 full then it will be a great occasion. Doubt it would feel a 'crap ground in North London' (like the Rochdale game maybe did, which I assume is where some the Wembley negativity comes from from). It's a rubbish place to get to. It all depends where you're starting from, of course, but if you're from up this neck of the woods and Hillsborough (or Elland Road) or Villa Park are no more convenient, I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about. Wembley lost its mystique a long time ago. The towers have gone, the ground can't hold atmosphere, and I've seen games at what was the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff where it was magnitudes better in every regard (aside from the fact County weren't there). Wembley's a shit big ground and it needs saying. Also, we went to the old Wembley and were outnumbered significantly for 3 of the 4 occasions. That didn't help us enjoy the day at all. For me wembley is just a name and nothing else to offer. Totally overated rip off and stuck in possibly the worst position in north london. It always gets me passing the place on the west coast main line then having to travel back roughly the way you came. As for driving there are eventually finding a parking space is only slightly better than selhurst park for northern fans.

Looking forward to the ticket office seizing the opportunity to f*ck this up in any way that’s possible. Must be odds on that the platform falls over and there’s a problem at the advertised time? Vanarama final tickets being sold via wembley ticket online system i think rather than the clubs Could happen for all the finals....Etickets would work then

Villa Park is possibly a reasonable option for a big game but I certainly wouldn’t see a game at Elland Road or Hillsborough in the same way. Would prefer any of the 3. We have played less games at those grounds than we have at wembley for a start. The other consideration is that there will be many like me who cannot afford an overnight stop or have the lifestyle that would allow it anyway, and somehow i could see the cost of entrance being a bit lower. Fans do not count anyway apart from the need for em to pay for wembley.

If anyone wants to try. Salford are selling tickets tomorrow straight away on general sale (Tuesday 9th) That's weird, and simply asking for most of the home end full of County. Says to me they weren't confident of selling it out themselves.

They did say that postcodes may be checked.

Really who wants to have to search for a parking space within a mile or so from the ground and then have to sit or stand in silence in feer of being kicked out for being in the wrong end when you can watch it somewhere on the box.

Well I'm not going to be able to go, so there's 3 season ticket holders who won't be trying for one. I'm sure loads more will be in the same boat.

When teams play at Wembley, don't they have to pay money to play there? They do. They take a fee of both teams. Not really paying money to play there, to be fair - there'd be a fee charged by the hosting ground no matter where it was. What you can do, of course, is pretend that the fee means you make no money from the game, and then back it up by pissing away the large amount of money you do make with a massive celebratory piss-up for as many hangers-on as you can find.

It all depends where you're starting from, of course, but if you're from up this neck of the woods and Hillsborough (or Elland Road) or Villa Park are no more convenient, I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about. More convenient obviously, but if I've got to make an effort to get to one of the above, I'd take the extra bit of travel and have an occasion at Wembley (not as negative on it as some). Assume if it wasn't at Wembley, there'd be as many grumblings along the lines of "X Pound a Ticket, etc, and we don't even get a trip to Wembley out of it".Clearly whether anyone thinks Wembley is any good as a venue or not is personal taste and I won't labour that any more. But your final comment is interesting. As I don't like Wembley I don't see any value in paying for that, in whatever the cost is. I don't see, for example, paying 35quid to see us at Villa Park in a playoff final would be a reasonable 40 or 45quid ticket at Wembley. But we, as fans, probably are paying an additional cost to watch us there, precisely for the reason already given for games being there in the first place: it cost too much at the time and someone's looking to recoup costs at our expense. Which is why this entire discussion is almost certainly hypothetical - it's not going to change any time soon, no matter if there are better alternatives. Should also say, none of this is predicated on the assumption that we will be in the final! It's just a general discussion point.

I get the "Wembley mystique" argument. Going to the old place was amazing, especially the first time, even given the crappy sightlines for many seats. But the new ground, as Mozzer has pointed out, really has nothing going for it. The arch? Okay, maybe. Capacity? Not relevant to us. The location's crap, and it's the only the third best stadium in London anyway. For many reasons, Wembley's never going to have the aura the old place had.

Spurs and Arsenal are better versions of a big new bowl and Stamford Bridge has all the character of a big old ground. They're obviously not better in terms of facilities and all that but I'd rather be at Loftus Road or Craven Cottage too.
