The Burnley & Peterborough play off defeats hurt a lot more. After suffering relegation from the football league & then again to the NLN then suffering 11 years in purgatory, a league 2 play off final defeat in our first season back has barely registered on my disappointment meter. Probably helped by the fact Carlisle are a decent club who we have no real needle with, there was only 3 points between us in the regular season & they were above us for a long period of the season anyway & they won fair & square on the day with no contentious decision's going against us so I don't begrudge them the win at all. Pretty much knew as soon as they equalised that was us done & it wasn't going to be our year, was a bit deflated at that point but after the pens were done & dusted there was no wailing or gnashing of teeth, more a case of 'oh well that's that let's go for a pint'

Exactly how I felt, as did the kids watching it with me.

Wife, friends, work colleagues have being trying to say words of encouragement to me since Sunday, but I honestly came away from Wembley not a bit gutted at all. We all knew their goal was coming, and although we had a great chance when it went to penalties, then it seems we all knew it was over with our miss. Even now, I see so many positives about not winning last week, with us being able to build on our progress and create a squad to go for promotion, and also compete well in league one if we do go up next season.

It's because we're older and seen bigger disappointment.
There were kids in front and behind me crying. It's a sad day for them.
We'll win there again one day.

Think you're right there.. reckon between us then we could easily bring up at least 50 games/County memories in the last 15 years(since our last visit to Wembley) that are more disappointing than last Sunday.

I think the Dartford game was a lot worse

Their equaliser really felt like they took the lead last week as i'm sure it did with others. Time is definitely a healer mind, Monday morning waking up wasn't great but its over now. Lots to look forward to next season, a stronger league should make it even better.

During our time in the National North the Football League felt like a lifetime away. Even the National League, whilst being a step in the right direction, was still a big jump up.
When we went up we knew we were good enough. Chorley and Wrexham might have disagreed that we were the best team however on both occasions most others Managers felt we were.
I'm convinced that the lack of gnashing of teeth is due us being better prepared for next season and that the 3 up plus one in the play offs makes promotion a little easier than from the leagues below.
