Further and not that cheap on the train, fair play to those going. 149 miles to Nailsworth, Stroud, 152 to MK. MK is one train Stroud is 2 (from Stockport 3 for me) I can't see Railcard aside less than 100 quid on the train now. Oh and 2 hours 50 drive to MK for me, 2 hours 59 to FGR 😛 more like 4 hours plus with traffic.

As a purely straight there and back on the train job, MK is great.
It's a taxi/best part of an hour walk once you're off the train but dead easy.
It's on a big retail/leisure park so loads of options for food too.
I'd absolutely hate us to have something like that, despite their ground being smart, but I found going to MK very easy. Train was cheap too, was about £50 return.
Wouldn't even know where to begin with FGR. I'm hoping to go to this, we're staying with Mrs sue's friends in Gloucestershire, they live about 20 mins away from Nailsworth so shouldn't be too challenging.

Last time I did Forest Greeen was first day of the National League. Lived in London at the time so got the train to Stroud and came out of the station to look for a taxi. The infamous Lord Snape just so happened to pull in to the car park at the same time to pick up a friend off the same train, so I ended up getting a lift to the ground in the back of his Jaguar. Proper smarmy git. But hey, it saved a walk up the hill.

Got it down to 102 quid for both on railsplit ( might save a few more quid manually) hmmm now I just need 2 tickets and to stay fairly sober as I'm out Thursday night 🙄 running out of excuses not to go rapidly and its nearly my Birthday.....well closer 🤣

Gift horses and all that… It was the same time as the riots in London so I was all a bit discombobulated having dodged through all that on the way to Paddington and I didn't even clock it was him until he spoke to me. I've no idea who the other two men in the car were and they probably wondered why there was suddenly a slightly confused and very sweaty (it was a roasting hot day IIRC) 21 year old in the back of a Lord's car.

We couldn't get that price for MK but that's our ridiculous ticketing system, last time we went to FGR we had a really good day out on the train we had a few beers in Stroud and took taxis to the ground, this season I've only done Grimsby and Tranmere on the train it's just too unreliable and expensive now.

Have managed MK, Crewe and Newport on the train and have Sutton lined up too. But considering I've only missed a handful of games that number should be much higher - Grimsby, Mansfield, Bradford, Doncaster and Notts should all be mandatory by train.

Was seriously considering moving edgeley as it was 1 hour 20 mins from mk. The thing that held me back was the cost of the season ticket. Although I knew one nutter who commuted to mk from Leeds everyday. He was ex br so got free commuting travel.

Only if you are on your own. Best way is still by car especially if you can fill it up with fans who want to do something similar like getting there and going back at a certain time or have a patient non drinker if the rest like a tipple. Do not know how much of this does go on but its something that should be encouraged.

Nah, a gang of you on an 8am train, 6-8 of you around a couple of tables, loads of cans, some snacks, full on gobshite away day. Nothing better. Cars are sound for for quick in and out trips but a big away day on the train is untouchable.

Well i do, and the only game i ever went on the train to was york where even a change in leeds was more conveniant than driving there. Never drove all the way to wembley either as i parked at denham and caught the chiltern line train to the ground. Everywhere else i never think twice how i,m getting there.

I did try to go to Wembley once to watch England v Uruguay on my motorbike of all things, young me thought it a splendid idea, doomed to failure, flat tyre and then came off on the way back going through Bakewell in the fog after clipping a Kerb 🙄 had to crash the gears all the way back as broke my little finger added to the clutch lever being half snapped off!

You should have started a thread on away day disasters. Think we have all had these especially when we arrived to find the game has been called off after the problems we went through just getting there.
