Wasn’t going to respond to this, but having listened to the SK3 TV podcast last night with Liam discussing the goalkeeper position (49:50 for about a minute), I think the record does need putting straight, as it would suggest that one of us is correct in our assessment of Vit Jaros and in tune with the club’s thinking, and the other (plus homies) isn’t . Partly applies to Suedehead also with the silly ‘…on commission’ remark. Jaros has gone and is irrelevant, but if Corey Addai starts on Saturday, I hope he’s not going to be faced with similar negativity just because he’s replaced Ben; everyone now needs to embrace the fact that for only the second time since Ben arrived, we have two No 1’s either of whom could be No 1 in any other team in this division. There wasn't a single piece of negativity towards Jaros when he was in the team. Everyone got behind him and recognised he was a decent keeper. It'll be the same with Addai, if/when he plays. If he ends up like Ethan Ross then he'll get stick, but that'll be because he's dodgy, not because he's replaced Ben. Both keepers need to be afforded 100% backing. If either start and they make a mistake or 2 we should not be calling for either to be dropped JUST based on a couple of errors. The keeping position is not about who makes zero mistakes but how they help the team progress the ball / keep teams out one end and help set up attacks at the other end. It’s simply up to Dave and his coaching team to decide what they want from the position and go with it from the off, stick with it unless it becomes absolutely obvious 10 games in that it is not working. A bit like the Touray situation last season I guess. Both are excellent keepers BTW and I would be happy with either at the end of the day.

I'm not sure why people think we're suddenly going to attack someone? We didn't do it with Ross, until it became clear he was a headless chicken. Even then he was never really a boo boy, it was more he created unnecessary tension as he was so erratic. We defo never gave Jaros stick either. Nor when Ormson stepped in for Ben. Nor do we have a pop at Ben if he makes a mistake. It's just a bizarre thing that's surfaced where people think we're going to be attacking one of our own. It won't happen. Having said that, there'll be plenty of empty heads who'll shout 'get rid' or 'stop pissing about' to Addai but I'm glad he doesn't just leather it up the pitch and lose possession. It's just stupid to hoof a ball 50/60 yards and invite more pressure. But on the whole give it 10 games thing, this is why I don't think we need to change things. We've given Ben 350 games and he's obviously proven himself in that time, every single season, almost every single game. It's totally unnecessary to take him out of the team when he's arguably as good as he's ever been. If we're taking Ben out of the team, one of the standout players of the season, why don't we take Horsfall out too and give one of the new signings ten games to stake a chance? We obviously won't, because it'd be unnecessary. It's the same with Ben.

It’s not “us” I am talking about. It’s the greater county fanbase, the knee jerk reactions and as a keeper you will always be most in the limelight, just comes with the territory. What I don’t agree with is keeping Ben in the side “because he’s played 350 games”. If Addai is better and gives us more of what we need as an all round package, he comes in. Just like Barry came in for Paddy and blew L2 away before his injury. No one was saying that Paddy should play ahead of him “coz he’s played X games and scored Y goals” once Barry started clicking through the gears. The problem with all this is the fact Ben has played 8 seasons and been brilliant is being quoted all over the place and that is why he should be playing from the start. Not for me that. IMO past performance is completely irrelevant for the 24/25 season. Now if Addai can’t step up for whatever reason, and Ben does better in training and matches, of course Ben should play, but if the coaching team start Addai based on what they see in training everyday, we should all get behind him (and for the avoidance of doubt Suedehead, I know you will it’s others I am talking about!!) But it’s just a matter of opinion and that happens to be mine.

But I’m not saying we keep Ben in because of his past and 350 games, more because he’s a great keeper and has proven that. There’s no need to change, especially when others are saying let’s make the change but give Addai ten games. Ten games is 1/4 if the season. I’ll back Addai 100%, but I still think Ben should start.
