You'd take Champions League, which would be all but forgotten about 2 years down the line and which no-one outside County would give a toss about, to irrevocably placing ourselves into the annals of football history? Wow. Just, wow. I'll pithily say that I think you are possibly following the wrong kind of football club (only kidding). Absolutely. What really pisses me off is when managersfield 'weakened' teams in the FA Cup, prioritising the league. First it was the big, rich clubs. Now virtually all teams do it. I can see why, if the team is chasing promotion or fighting relegation. But even so, it's a sad development. I hope Coventry win tomorrow. I would love it. Which again makes a mockery of the reason behind the decision. If the big clubs don't want the hassle of replays field a side strong enough to win the tie in the first instance. The trouble is the money in the premier league has killed the importance of the cups. Mid table premier league sides now put more onus on maybe finishing one or two places higher in the league as the money awarded for a higher premier league placing is probably more than they'd get for winning the F.A. cup. Must be incredibly frustrating to be a fan of a club that fields a weakened side in the 3rd round just so they could possibly finish 12th over 15th.

Genuinely think Coventry have a chance if United perform as poorly as they have in some recent games.

Wrexham getting lots of stick for not putting a statement out, probably cos the powers that be there have forgotten who they are and agree with scrapping them Tbf its a lot of their fans the proper ones who are pissed off Their director, Shaun Harvey, was the CEO of the EFL so is probably friends with a lot of the people involved with the decision. He also proposed mid-week FA Cup games during his time in the previous role so had no issue with devaluing the competition. Their owners or newer fans probably don't really get the significance. As you say, a lot of their proper fans are being very vocal about it. I'm sure they did big up the FA Cup games against Sheffield United and Coventry on the documentary. Chances are some Harvey's associates at the EFL came up with an agreement with the FA/PL and they want to brush it under the carpet.

I doubt that would be the case if we got to that point. I'd take Champions League any day. I don't agree with him, and I'd take an FA Cup win, but to be fair to Gibbo that's not really expressing what's at stake. Yes, on the one hand there's placing ourselves into the annals of football history, but the other side isn't just a campaign forgotten about 2 years down the line. It's seeing one or more of teams like Barcelona, PSG, Bayern, Real, Juventus playing at EP, and County playing in the Nou Camp, etc. That's pretty significant, and I do understand why some County fans might prefer that to a Cup win. Ridiculous argument in some ways, as we're neither going to win the FA Cup or finish second in the PL(!), but I do think Gibbo has a point.

It's definitely one of the games a poor team like United, with a manager on notice, could lose. That said, I can't see beyond another Manchester final, myself.

The only people remotely interested in us playing any of those teams are County fans. There'd be a bit of press coverage, but we'd be forgotten about and back in our lane within 48 hours. Whereas an FA Cup win, everyone would know that. We'd always be "FA Cup Winners Stockport County". It would be carried with us all around the country (and world) forever. Anyone who'd opt for Champs League over FA Cup has lost a little of their soul for me. Winning stuff is what it's all about for Christ's sake. Who on here, genuinely would have been happy (just) with promotion this time last week?

Talking of playing big teams, just you wait, this’ll be the season we finally get Brazil (A) in the Cup. No chance to take them back to EP. Rubbish.
