Get nurse to fire up the tinterweb thingy. For us young and no so young un's, in my case. How does this compare to 1966-67? The team, the player's, the manager, the fans, the vibe around the town, the celebrations, the opposition and anything else that comes to mind. Over to you lot and we know it was all fields round ere. History repeating itself is good, in this instance, and let's hear about what went before, please.

I wasn't there, but from the history books I can see our average crowd was 9,820 which is about 600 higher than this season. If it was 3 points per game, we would have finished on 90 points (hopefully, we reach 95 this season), with the next best being 83. We scored just 69 and conceded 42 (this season currently 91v44).

1966/7 was roughly about the time I started watching County. Can distinctly remember standing behind Mulhearn on the Railway End sleepers. My favourite was little Johnny Price on the wing - spent many hours in his pub (The 'Kicker') after he retired before his demons took him. As kids we used to make our way around to the old Cheadle End via Pop Side and prise open a sheet of corrugated iron at the side of the the stand. Make our way in the dark underneath the stand and emerge somehow in the centre gangway and up into the seats ! I kid you not. Used to love the Friday nights - football grounds always seem so much more atmospheric under floodlights.

1966/67 played in black and white, this team play in colour?

I was at the last game that season aged 9. County had already secured the title and were playing Lincoln City who I think were bottom. In typical County style they managed to lose 5-4. Rumour had it that most of the players were still inebriated from their celebrations.

Haydock Woods and Stuart played the entire season in defence Mulhearn left to Man City Fleet came other way in goal Fred Goodwin steady eddy in midfield Dave Shawcross played midfield but got swapped for Bill Atkins Johnny Price and Len Allchurch were fantastic wingers Up front was like a revolving door Frank Lord Albert Quixall Bert Lister Derek Kevan Keith East Keith Allen and Bill Atkins all scored a few but moved on quickly. except Bill who did well with Jimmy Fryatt in division above

The 66/67 side were known for their 1-0 wins & i think they scored more than 3 goals in a game on 3 occasions (4-0, 4-1 & the 4-5 mentioned..all at home) Don't know what the average age of the squad was, but they seemed to have a number of seasoned campaigners who'd done it elsewhere & were in the 'autumn' of their careers. Think this is why they didn't last very long in Division 3, as the elder statesmen left, they weren't really replaced with the same quality

I can’t believe our defence tried to dribble out with it. More likely belted up to strong centre forward who would then try to bring Allchurch and Price into it.

We had an awesome defence that season, with Matt Woods and Eddie Stewart totally dominant as centre backs. Won a lot of games 1-0, we were confident that is if we scored we would go on to win. We clinched the campionship at Wrexham, and still had 3 games to play. We beat Aldershot at home, Southend away, and then bizzarrely lost our final game, at home against bottom tram Lincoln 4-5. I suspect some of our lor had partied a bit too much!

Joined Stoke and they won division 2 (Championship) title Just a one season man Died in 2014. Matt Woods was 35 and had played nearly 300 games for Blackburn who were a top league team and played in FA cup final in 1960. went to Australia for a couple of seasons before joining us for promotion season Went on for another season at County and then managed us at start of 70s Died in 2014.

Its hard to compare really as everything about the game has changed as well as fans expectations. We had real household names in that squad back then, wingplay from allchurch and price you,d never see now. Two CB with age added together which was over 70 years old. We were an exciting side back then but i think everything back then was more exciting when you were 20 and not 77 like its been with me. Just a pity i was 77 then and 20 now to really say which was the better side that gave me the bigger buzz. My old man was with me back then in his middle 60,s whose been a pro and has seen it all including a spectator in the burnden park disaster but loved that side saying it was the best he had ever seen.

Small aside, in the very early 80s I worked at the Halifax on Deansgate and I arranged a remortgage for Eddie Stuart and his Mrs, he seemed a really nice bloke but I was trying to be professional and didn’t mention I knew who he was , I wish I had done because I’m sure he’d have been chuffed to have been recognised. Anyone else got any riveting Eddie Stuart anecdotes? No? Ok then.

When you look at that 66/67 squad & what many of them had achieved earlier in their career, its incredible. Derek Kevan for instance had been playing for England 5 years earlier & had played in the 1958 World Cup, but the money wasn't there to allow them to finish at the top, so they gradually made their way down the leagues.
