Nothing is simple when it comes to Council finance. Every thing is valued by best value and they have to show that a transaction is right and proper. It is a mine field

But couldn't they get the money from a mortgage on some other property that they own? Or selling some vacant land for development? As BigFella says, it isn't that simple. You need to see it from a lot if angles other than just what you think is in the best interests of County. Why would the council put assets into an organisation that has consistently failed to live within its income over many years when the council is a custodian of public money and resources? And I know everyone is talking about a fan-led cooperative future, but that isn't what we have. We have a privately owned organisation with no tangible assets that anyone could raise any finance against. Remember the council have already cut about £50m from their budget and have about £40m more to find. They can only finance things like Grand Central when the numbers stack up to borrow money. They can do things businesses can't afford (like the thing Travelodge want to do anywhere) because they don't have to make a profit for any shareholder and they can borrow really really cheaply. The council are not the solution. They will not act unless there is a cast iron business case that shows that FINANCING the purchase of the ground is affordable BY COUNTY and that the club is financially stable and operating in a sustainable way. With County unable to afford to pay the whole rent as it stands the club can't make the case. With part of the existing rent deferred, BK/CS could wipe out the club by calling in what is owed - anyone know what the deal was with the deferment? The good thing is that BK/CS probably can't sell the ground. It is likely to back loans bigger than the current value and they would then have a financial headache. Everyone seems to have believed the myth that there is huge profit to be made on the back of the council and Booth Street. I hope the leeches will soon realise this isn't ever going to happen and will write off their debts and walk away. I hope it. I don't expect it.
