Seeing as i am slightly too young for the "Friday Night is County Night" memories, could you auld folk share some of your memories on this thread? The memories can be anything from: - The Game - Any famous ones?
- The Away Following and the "friendly" welcome we gave them
- The banter before or after the game
Anything really guys!

Bratfud at home. 4th division in the early 70's I think. There was no segregation and home and away fans came in thro the railway end turnstile. The pop side went way back about 3 or 4 times the depth it is today and the place was heaving. Not sure what the crowd was but probably 7000. There were running battles throughout the game and I have a distinct memory of running across the pitch at one point to get away from the marauding yorkies. I've no idea what the score was but I went home with adrenaline pumping through my teenage frame. (Not condoning violence in Any way!)

I'm only 35 (I know, I don't look a day over 34) so although I've got plenty of memories and experience of Friday night football it's all pretty hazy. Certainly compared to the early 90s which I remember almost more vividly than most of the last shit decade.
My earliest County memory is of us playing against Vale. Soccerbase tells me it was Friday 6th May, 83. Which given the fact they got promoted will have meant a hefty away following. I was born in September 78, so I'll hav been four and a half. I remember being on the Popside with my Dad and being confused as to why mid-match I was being lifted over the perimeter wall into the arms of a policewoman.
I don't remember much else for a few more years although I went to Beavers on a Friday night (Beavers, fnarr!), in Hazel Grove and it finished at 7pm. So by the time we got to EP I'll have had to take my neckerchief and woggle off and get all County'd up. I was mascot in March 86 against Torquay. I've still got all the pics. I'd put one up but I can't be bothered.
I wore gola boots, my first pair of proper football boots. And the kit they gave me was from a year or two before. I didn't get to keep it, it was just in a bag and presumably used by every mascot at that time.
I was still going with my Dad and so sitting in the newly created family stand at the front of the main stand. So tales of welcomes for away fans wouldn't be something I could comment on until the early/mid 90s.
I do remember vividly us losing to both Chester and Shrewsbury in 91-92 (or was it the year after?). Both were on Friday nights, both were heavy defeats, 4-0 and 4-1. Andy Thorpe broke the leg of Dave Bennett of Shrewsbury though. He was murdering us. John Bond was their manager.
I saw a thread on here that almost felt like was a massive WUM the other day, suggesting we go back to Friday nights. Imposter replied better than I could have. We should look at the odd game for nostalgia purposes but beyond that, absolutely not, never.

I remember the Vale game when they got promoted, after the game the Vale players came out onto the pitch to acknowledge their hoards who had invaded the pitch only to find they'd all been chased off and they were met with a baying mob of County fans, they went back in and sent our players back out.

Here's one for the oldies. Who remembers an FA (or League) cup game played at EP between Preston and Port Vale. Quite a few of us County went along. By that was a rum night.

Not condoning violence but i would have loved some of that

I find it funny that if someone suggests supporting County in a slightly different way to you that you class them as a WUM.

WUMary is something most long term YBers can spot at the length of a gnats dick. It is also a big part of YB culture. We don't like being WUMed but WUMing Americans is a blast, though I know nothing about such WUMing

Difficult to explain.
It's like you have your own set way of enjoying football and anyone who has a different way is wrong.
Does that make sense?
