One of my favourite games as a County fan occurred on a Friday night, relatively recently.
Crewe Alex at home, April 2009. They needed to win to have any chance of staying up, and we needed to win because we all knew administration was imminent the next week. The place was rocking and we won 4-3. John Ruddy had a shocker for Crewe in their sticks. Edgeley Park was electric and it turned out to be the last time the Jim Gannon, Alan Lord and Peter Ward would work together at home.
I think I enjoy the memory of that game not so much because of the game itself, but because it's the last time I can remember being a County fan as an enjoyable experience. It was the last time that we enjoyed ourselves before everything went tits up, and I can say in all honesty that it's the last time I thoroughly enjoyed a County match.
April 2009. That's nearly 5 fxxxing years ago.

Bratfud at home. 4th division in the early 70's I think. There was no segregation and home and away fans came in thro the railway end turnstile. The pop side went way back about 3 or 4 times the depth it is today and the place was heaving. Not sure what the crowd was but probably 700and they were rammed in to bursting point. 0. There were running battles throughout the game and I have a distinct memory of running across the pitch at one point to get away from the marauding yorkies. I've no idea what the score was but I went home with adrenaline pumping through my teenage frame. (Not condoning violence in Any way!) IIRC correctly the following year the police put most of the Bratfud fans in the small paddock at the front of the main stand. I recall them scoring, a load of people around me in the Railway End celebrating, being punched and seeing 2 youngish girls bouncing around on the heads and shoulders of the ones in the paddock whilst being groped. A copper asked me if I was a County fan. I asked him to look at the evidence, namely my County scarf and the fact he had seen me being snotted by a 20 stone human pit pony. He threatened to arrest me for being cheeky!

I remember the Vale game when they got promoted, after the game the Vale players came out onto the pitch to acknowledge their hoards who had invaded the pitch only to find they'd all been chased off and they were met with a baying mob of County fans, they went back in and sent our players back out. Was you sat in the stands Vic? Of course, I was sat there with my flask discussing how they should bring back the birch.

Vic, you must have some great memories from back in the day. Any more you care to share with this thread? Any other favorites that stand out?

[quote author=" someoneelse" source. I saw a thread on here that almost felt like was a massive WUM the other day, suggesting we go back to Friday nights. Imposter replied better than I could have. We should look at the odd game for nostalgia purposes but beyond that, absolutely not, never.[/quote] Someoneelse:[ That was my post and it wasn't a WUM as you put it. Alan Ogley talked about the huge crowds on Friday nights in the seventies. II was a teenager then and we went to the pop side. I am not advocating we return to Friday nights, just thought it was worth talking about as the club needs supporters through the door or have I got that wrong?

Not that many for me. One that sticks out though was our only home defeat in the 90/91 promotion season. Lost 3-1 to Hartlepool and we got taken apart, totally unexpected. First proper season for me, was about 12 so probably one of the first ever times I'd seen us get beat at home and was devastated. Decent Striker for them got a hat-trick. Forget his name.

Just got his name. Joe Allon. If you google image his name the 3rd picture is him celebrating the opening goal that night at the CE while Redders is helpless. Don't know how to post pics.

I remember one night in the 70's. I'd just had my 1st head shave. I was 14 i think. Slim the gas man was flicking my ears on the pop side most of the game.
I used to live opposite slim on celtic street. is he still about?

I remember the demolition of Bournemouth when the lights went out on Jim Gannon. Unfortunately that wouldn't be the first time that would happen.
