Darren Stephenson wasn't a regular in our 6th level side, not sure he's good enough but I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

i,d only give stephenson a short term contract till say january and thats only because the lad missed the whole of this season. really doubt that he would be a terror to the opposition defences as for me he only had a good second half of our promotion season in the time he has been with us.

Stephenson, IMO, has been a good 2nd half of season player for us. I appreciate he's had some very good games during his time with us but they're too few and far between and although I rate he's a good player I think he's more of an NLN player - when he tries. I think we can find better for the National Prem promotion charge!

Tough one with Stephenson. If he hadn’t been injured I’m certain we’d have seen him this season so you could say we owe him a go at this level. But, putting that aside, if it boils down to a choice between him and Lloyd (or someone of comparable quality), or even McAlinden or someone of comparable quality, I think DS will be on his way.

agree. he would be well down the pecking order but i do think the club should offer the lad something. he does not have to accept it.

Stephenson was inconsistent in the NLN before he received the second long term injury of his career and with our ambition to win the league he’s not going to cut it.
We shouldn’t be offering him a contract out of sympathy while we will be no doubt releasing better players.

Fully agree Stephenson didn't do enough for me in NLN to think he could step up to NL - I'm afraid I'd be offloading him as we can't afford to have 'squad' players taking up space when we can fill that shirt with someone more competitive

Stephenson, IMO, has been a good 2nd half of season player for us. That's what I remember too; I'm sure that, last season, before Christmas many of us were talking about him being the first one out the door in the January window, but then he quickly found form and became a big part of the promotion push. He hasn't really been tested at this level for us, IIRC he did for Tranmere however and there's a reason he ended up dropping down another level. As long as County have held up their end of the bargain with him - see through the contract, help him back to fitness - then there's nothing he's owed and we should be looking for better. Lloyd is a superb player but there's always the question of wages, if Salford want to throw stupid money at people that's their problem, just because County have money available doesn't mean we should follow suit.

Been a forward/left winger mainly for Tranmere, became more of a central midfielderas the season went on, but I think still mostly thought of as a winger. Big question is (if he came) what that'd mean for the rest of the squad - would Lloyd join full time? Do we keep Stephenson on? And I can't remember if McAlinden was signed until the end of the season, or if he got a 2 1/2 year deal, like Hogan and Maynard did I’d love us to sign Jennings. Cracking player. I honestly think we can get better for our money than Lloyd, unless he’s willing to take a paycut. Salford inflated his wage massively. Stephenson, no thanks. McAlinden is only on a deal until the end of the season but he was starting to show promise so I’d give him another season. I get the impression Lloyd would happily come here even with a pay cut. It’s solely my opinion, not based on any insider info whatsoever, but I feel like the season he was with us was the happiest he’s been in football for a very long time and I think he’d take a cut to sign for us permanently rather than stay at Salford for the money. Could be wrong but that’s the vibe I get. His tenacity and work ethic alone is enough for me to want to see him stay at the club moving forward, so factoring in his undoubted skill and creativity it’s a no brainier if a financial deal can be reached. AIMVHO.

Announces he’s leaving Tranmere via Twitter - he’ll be heading here I reckon.

I noticed on Monday that James said farewell to Wrexham. A competent left back, wouid love both at EP, with a younger left back signing to learn and develop from James’s experience.. Whoever Jim signs will have all the attributes to play and develop at EP.
