We were talking about this recently and my missus moved from Copenhagen to Stockport 20 years ago and in all that time never witnessed a fight and we went out regularly.

I suppose it’s easy not to notice or pick up on things unless you’re looking for it. Possibly a daft comparison but whenever someone mentions a specific car, I always feel like I see them a hell of a lot compared to before.
I was in Las Vegas during the Trayvon Martin trial and it was show live on the box over there.
I watched CNN this morning after my original comment and they named multiple incidents dating back to 2014 and had multiple people on giving their account on the violence and other activists who are talking about what needs to be done. Most had very valid suggestions (all 4 police officers need to be charged rather than just the one for example) but some seemed to suggest that looting and arson which have taken place across over a dozen cities is being done so that people take notice. Is it really? Or are people using a terrible incident as a platform to steal and cause violence. There’s some equally barbaric videos doing the rounds which are on the same level as the George Floyd incident and for sure there’s going to be more fatalities.

How much of that is related to where you’re going? The type of behaviour we’re talking about is pretty much entirely coming from males aged 15 - 25. If you don’t drink in the same pubs / go to the same clubs as that group, you’re much less likely to see anything. even bearing that in mind, I’ve heard three or four fights happening down my road, and had a fight start in a curry house I was in over the last few years. I’ve also seen the odd bit of trouble at County (mainly of the coked out ‘you want some?’ threat style behaviour, rather than 70/80s style hooliganism)

Kids are drinking less now though aren’t they? I can’t comment on the 70s or 80s but in the 90s when I was drinking as a youth, every pub in every town was rammed on a Friday and Saturday night with 18-25s with everyone spilling into the streets and fighting after closing. Now when I come back to visit, those same towns are full of family oriented places more geared towards food.

back to the original post about black minorities and their treatment in the land of the free. in south africa and zimbabwe the opposite is happening to the white minorities that are left. farms burnt, whites murdered on a regular basis. does not get much of a mention in the main stream media. in years to come will people scratch their heads not understanding how majorities treat minorities in various countries of the world. i would really hope so but somehow i doubt it.

I've shared a few threads of videos of police-led violence on Twitter and I was appalled by the number of attacks on presumably innocent people (the majority seemed to be passive bystanders rather than trouble-causing protesters and some were teenage kids). In the US it appears it's open season once you're given a badge and a gun, you can always hide behind the badge and the law. Any protests or rioting due to their behaviour merely gives them an excuse to crack a few skulls. The copper giving the 'white power' sign in New York should be prosecuted, disgraceful behaviour, but you just know it'll be swept under the carpet. I feel sorry for the peaceful residents of the US; you have a racist government and police force and now Trump is classifying ANTIFA as a terrorist organisation; nothing about the far-right groups though, obviously. I know we're not much better, but at least the Tories are more subtle with their division and racism.

Watched US news earlier today and George Floyds brother turned up with a civil rights activist and reverend from New York. Horrible thing to witness his brother arrive at the scene of the death for the first time. Also showed footage of the family speaking to the MPD top dog through a reporter at the scene and he said he had no doubt the other 3 officers were complicit in the event as they didn’t do anything to prevent or stop.
Moment was slightly ruined by the media walking on flowers etc at the memorial to try and get a better shot of his brother. The reverend/civil rights activist then called him Gregory instead of George over a megaphone when introducing his brother to the crowd!

I know we're not much better, but at least the Tories are more subtle with their division and racism. I've also seen plenty of these videos. Here in Indianapolis we have had an 8pm curfew the past couple of days, and continuing. Last evening at the protest in the centre of the city, police began teargassing peaceful protesters (including "worship groups") at Monument Circle *before* the curfew, and pepper-spraying general passers-by at bus stops etc - including children and members of the press, who are also being arrested for performing their Constitutionally protected work. It seems to be the cops, the National Guard and infiltrators like the "Proud Boys" who are instigating some if not much of the violence and property damage. The Rude Man in the White House will of course ignore that and attack Antifa, because those are "his people" and he has consistently encouraged harm to those he considers "other" - and not just during this presidency. By the way, he has no power in law or the Constitution to declare Antifa (or any group) a terrorist organisation. Nevertheless, it is inevitable that he would try to label anti-fascists as such, and not actual fascists. It's what he is; but also he is a useful puppet for those who are *really* pulling the strings in the shadows, who strive for an autocratic white oligarchy in perpetuity. I was encouraged yesterday to see pictures and videos of police kneeling and walking with protesters; until I discovered today that in many cases, once the cameras were off the order were given to start teargassing. Your comment about the "white power" cop is revealing. Meanwhile, the president hides in his cellar, switches off the White House lights and makes a call to his buddy (or blackmailer) Putin.

There was a snippet of a call on CNN before of Trump speaking to some governors criticising the way in which they’re dealing with it all. God knows how they managed to get hold of it but news channels over there don’t hold back in the slightest with their reporting. Trump really isn’t a liked man by many over there is he?
