Well done to Barrow for carrying out long-overdue ground improvements, in this case a roof on the open terrace behind the goal, in an old-school ground that can be really exposed to the elements.

A definite improvement... though with a double row of FOURTEEN columns per row supporting the new roof, you'd probably not want to stand on the top 4 or 5 rows.
A bit like EP when the old Pop side terrace was double the height it was eventually reduced to about 40 years ago.

for some unknown reason i always found that open end at barrow worse than any open end anywhere else. no idea why but always expected the worse there.

Was freezing at Portsmouth...and Ice Staion Zebra (Oldham) I seem to remember driving hail blowing right in to us...can't remember exactly when.

Open terrace at Hartlepool, in about Feb 90, I think. Coldest I've ever been in a ground. I think the away support was the first thing the wind had hit since it left Norway.
Just as well we didn't get blobbed 5-0 or anything or it'd have been an awful trip, especially if one of those five goals had been Redfearn being beaten by an overhead kick from the edge of the box...

Southport is grim for that as well. and the old cinder bank at the shay. its just a barrow thing with me. do not mind the club or the fans for that matter and they are better than most for me. its just holker street where i expect thunder, lightening, the ground to dissapear under me with a plague of locusts all in the first 5 minutes of kick off.

I bow to your encyclopaedic knowledge, I just remember going there and getting drubbed, with Nixon being sent off...β¦.. for all I can remember, Redfern could have come on as a sub and gone in goal! π

We were in the Championship then.

Wonder what happened to Dave Redfern? Played in a promotion winning side and then barely again from what I can remember
