Having just watched the Chris Ridgeway interview with Jim. It looks like the potential signing Jamie Stott, a left footed centre half rests on whether Jim and SW feel the squad requires an experienced left sided CB or a younger up and coming player. The first more experienced, left footed centre half that might be available that comes to mind is Carl Piergianni. Interested to hear who people would prefer, if they were the choices.

A Hogan, Palmer and Piergianni trio would be too slow for me. Would hope our left-sided CB would add some pace to the defence.

Apparently Salford got rid of Piegianni due to a lack of pace (according to my mate who watches Salford)so I wouldn't want to see him back to be honest.

Would prefer Stott. Think Perigiani’s best days are behind him and as said elsewhere he is too slow. Maybe they have somebody in mind for the experienced LCB but if they can’t get him, they will go with Stott.

Stott would be a much better fit.
If you play a back 3, the right sided and left sided CB's ideally need to be decent on the ball. We know Hogan is, Palmer is more of a limited defender so he'd be in the middle.
Stott, Palmer and Hogan would be an excellent, well balanced back 3

Though I have a feeling we already have a few lined up/already signed and are realising the news bit by bit.

Piergianni was ok first time for me, no better than that, evidently improved but was always slow on the turn, no way could play him in a 3, he get done down sides too easy in much same Meppen-Walters did for us and when Bell gave them runaround, Stott has more capacity to improve and is ingrained in this era of the club too, but there be someone else who hasnt played for us previously available better than both

JG always talks about squad roles rather than the traditional 11 positions, so I'd expect us to go for a right-back who can play centre half first, a right-sided version of JJennings, whereas Kitching seems be more of a left-sided Minihan

Sign them both and send Downing out on loan to gain experience and develop. Give Jamie a three year contract with a one year option as he is young and will develop more under Jim and outlast Carl.

Would prefer someone mobile, & its not as if Stott is inexperienced. Think he would be a great aquisition because Hogan does seem to have a history of not being able to complete a full season without picking up some injuries. Think Stott could also do the Festus role & fill in in midfield if required, (a similar position JG first played when he came to the club - almost a sweeper)he has pace & can tackle Was quite surprised that JG openly talked about Stott in the interview to be honest,as he's usually keeps his cards close to his chest & doesn't name names until the business is completed

The fact that Stott got name checked, makes me think that the interest might not be that strong

piergianni would be fine for one season and one season only. stott could have a longer career with us and i do not think at the moment there is much to choose between em. if you are looking at the longer term then stott would be the obvious signing between the two.
