I work in Bury and know a few fans and this new team has really split the fan base as technically the original Bury still exist.
The hardcore lads I know (who go home and away) are giving the new team a miss as it’s Gigg Lane Bury or nothing for them.
Bury in general don’t give a shit about their team anyway so I don’t think this Phoenix club will be the huge success some are predicting.

Slightly disappointing that they've both been accepted ahead of local side Stockport Georgians who applied for promotion to that level, with the improvements made it looks like a tidy set up that they've got down there.
The locals in Bury have proved over the years that they aren't really arsed about their local football team, they'll need decent support and the finance that brings to progress after the first couple of promotions.

Yeah, odd isn’t it.

Do NWCL play night games mid week? We haven't many flight connections at the moment between IOM and UK. The FC Isle of Man facilities are very good though

I take it Isle of Man FC pay the costs of the travelling team? Jersey Bulls do, so I’m gathering this will be the same arrangement. Must have plenty of cash or maybe some agreement with the tourist board/ferry companies etc.

Good point, there could be problems with ferry crossings in rough weather and I can't see clubs at that level booking complete planes. its quite regular to have ferry crossings cancelled throught the year to the IOM. that works both ways with them not able to travel for away matches. as for teams at that level booking their own plane some go to away games in cars. remember its a standard of football where many who play in it still play sunday morning football with other sides.

I'm pretty sure it'd be flights, not ferries, for IoM. Guernsey FC joined the non-League pyramid nearly a decade ago, they pay for opposition travel (well, from Gatwick onwards) without any significant issues. I think Liverpool is the most common departure point for flights to IoM

How on earth do lowly amateur teams afford to cover the travel costs of the opposition?!

They'll have sponsorship from Manx Airlines in much the same way as Guernsey F.C. do with Aurigny. Not sure how it will work for those players who have a fear of flying though. They'll have get the ferry or simply not go I guess?

I think at that level, it is accepted that some players miss games for work reasons etc. anyway. Suspect it’d be a case that anyone scared of flying just removes themselves from selection the week of the IOM game.

I fly fairly regularly but don't like it, I imagine the planes to IOM are small and there'll be some rough weather over the Irish sea through the football season, definitely not for me.
