Regardless of what is behind this move, and I really don’t think it’s as simple as saying it’s young ‘uns or Asians as I’ve seen on Twitter 🙄, to announce quite sweeping moves two hours before they come into force is rough. Particularly on the eve of a major religious festival that families will have been planning for weeks. Is it any different from telling people on Christmas Eve that you can’t meet up for dinner on Christmas Day? It's rough yes, but has to be better than the alternative surely? What can you do - just let people get on with it and suffer the risks, even though it's the wrong thing to do? Imagine the headlines on that when it came out! As always the details could have been much better handled, and the timing for Eid is unfortunate, but so be it.

Chris Whitty spoke today on lockdown easing: "We have probably reached near the limit of what we can do". He emphasised how much it was down to individuals to take control of their own activities and that would be a pertinent condition on how the disease can be controlled or spread further. That's such bollocks from them though, isn't it? A complete abandonment of leadership and responsibility to sort the problem out. They've dealt with this horribly from the very beginning and they're looking to shift blame and, by the sounds of some on here, they're succeeding. That Whitty quote is completely taken out of context. It was referring to not being able loosen any more restrictions.

We will get spikes and if immunity once you have had it is non-existent/short-lived then there we won’t be out of semi-lockdown until a vaccine/cure is founded widely distributed. I am now pessimistic again about having crowds of any size back in grounds next season. lot will depend on whether attending football is classed as a help to the economy or not. like the poster who works with loads of different families is fine as long as they do not go into your garden that is.

Haphazard, poorly planned, chaos. We are so poorly served by this government. It isn’t right or left. It isn’t party political. It is lack of competence. ------------------ This coronavirus disease is an infection brought about by a new virus. People can catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person infected with the virus. These droplets can land on objects and surfaces around the person such as tables, doorknobs and handrails. People can become infected by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. Therefore, it is impossible to expect any government to have the ability to control what the whole population does. Chris Whitty spoke today on lockdown easing: "We have probably reached near the limit of what we can do". He emphasised how much it was down to individuals to take control of their own activities and that would be a pertinent condition on how the disease can be controlled or spread further. It is absolute nonsense to bring politics into this; and you have done so despite your protestations in your post. We have natural sea defences and we had warnings from Spain and Italy of what was to come but we still have Europe's highest number of excess deaths, Matty talked about incompetence and it's hard to disagree, imagine the headlines if all this happened under Corbyn.

Yes, imagine...... The Sun: "CORBYN BLAMES JEWS FOR PANDEMIC" The Guardian: "LABOUR NOT ANTI-SEMITIC, CLAIMS CORBYN"

Yes, imagine...... The Sun: "CORBYN BLAMES JEWS FOR PANDEMIC" The Guardian: "LABOUR NOT ANTI-SEMITIC, CLAIMS CORBYN" or a couple of cartoons. The Sun shows corbyn doing a king canute on a beach with his hans up telling the virus to go back. The guardian shows him doing the same but the caption shows him as a big virus warrior doing his best.

The reality would probably be fewer deaths but we wouldn't have Johnson's mess to compare it with so he'd still be slated.

Definitely, if Diane Abbott was announcing the figures.
