Retiring after 31 years. I personally won’t miss him, could never disguise his lack of enthusiasm for County but absolutely loved Bury, Citeh and Alty.

You can add Rochdale to that list too, pretty much all the local clubs were “great little clubs” to him but rarely mentioned us. Seems he was a real bitter blue.

I've always liked listening to him although that has been much less since County had decent radio coverage. It will be interesting to see what sort of coverage we get on Radio Manchester when we start climbing the leagues again as there is a good chance we will pass the likes of Oldham, Rochdale and even Wigan in the next few years.

I always thought he was pretty clued up but he did not know why Alty were away today or why it was a one off game!

Used to see him all the time in the Sylvan pub in Timperley. Always snarled at him because he never had said anything positive about us on air.

I like listening to him on the wireless, both on his sport programmes and also his Sunday morning shows with Eamonn.

GMR was always in in the car in the 90s pre/post game and despite his obvious love for City, I thought he was very entertaining.
Not listened to him for about 15 years now but his voice takes me back to the late 90s straight away.
On another note, does anyone know about our coverage for next season on the radio? I’m usually at the game so never listen to commentary but it’d be great to get a bit more post-match reaction. It seems to be over almost as soon as I’m back in the car.

Yeh he was alright and wasn't negative or ignorant of County. Met him through work in the early/ mid 90s and he was complimentary and well wishing of County. As we slipped out of the league coverage slipped everywhere as it does apart from Pure and Imagine when they had the commentary rights.

Think he lost a little respect for us when his friend Fred Eyre was shown the door by Carlton Palmer. Obviously privy to what was going on behind the scenes at the club...if only the rest of us had known !

Perhaps I was being a bit harsh, it was just his unbridled enthusiasm for those other clubs yet County were one of the closest clubs to where he grew up and he didn’t seem to have any affection for us, which isn’t a crime I know. Radio Manchester sport was a ‘must listen’ in the 90s and they covered County pretty well. I used to listen to the Sunday Eamon and Jimmy show, but I find it very tired now, ‘do you remember the mcvitie factory?’ Do you remember spangles?. I came back to it recently after a break of about 5 years, and it was exactly the same show, but, reassuring in a way, just not for me any more.
