I'm going to try and keep track of these lot periodically over the course of the season, if anybody has any they want adding to the list let me know! Brilliant work that Palmers, really enjoyed it.... I see Newby also played the 90 mins last night as Barrow beat Derby in the EFL Cup. That was brilliant and in some ways shows how far we have come. Imagine that list of ex players still playing somewhere in the pyramid is much higher now than back in any of our dark days.

How old (and big) is Conrad Logan these days, can’t imagine him scampering it to claim too many crosses?

Superb work, Palmers. Impressive that Newby’s 3 assists this season all came against Port Vale after coming on as a sub. Talk about impact.
Cameron Darkwah is a throwback, and I’m baffled how Churchman is still only 29.
The only name I don’t have any recollection of whatsoever is Callum Dolan.

I don't think he ever played for us.

John Ruddy is the 47th choice keeper at Newcastle United. Thinking of Ruddy, there are a couple of other keepers about in the Premier League: Dean Henderson (starting for Palace), Fraser Forster (on the bench for Spurs at the weekend).

I started at Stockport college when we needed to use a slide rule because calculators were just becoming available but were incredibly expensive. I even had a circular one as well as the standard linear type. To me, a "slide rule pass" just means a precisely accurate one and I find it interesting that the phrase has outlasted the artifact it references by around fifty years. Its a phrase i have never used but all fans would understand the concept without explanation even if they had never seen or used a slide rule themselves. There are possibly other phrases used from the past to describe something thats long gone from the game but is a good description of something. If all fans would understand the concept without explanation even if they had never seen or used a slide rule themselves, would 1994hatter have asked "What’s a slide rule pass?" in the first place? I'd be happy to provide a gratuitous explanation of "a foot like a traction engine" if anyone's in any doubt 😉

Turning 30 this year and I thought I was past not understanding references because of my age, but clearly not!

I was absent mindedly looking back through old programmes last night and ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole to the point where I've spent today looking at where a lot of our ex-players of the last 15 years currently reside (if they're still playing, that is). Some are hard to find, and I imagine I've missed loads, but thought I'd try and give a recap on some of them (alphabetical by club): Amazing work; thank you. Some names there I was sorry to see go at the time; but with the benefit of hindsight the trajectory has largely been replacing good with better. I was most startled to see John Ruddy and Conrad Logan still playing, but maybe because I thought they must be the other side of 40 by now. Good for them anyway.
