What a player this man is, not just his goals but his play all over the pitch.

I agree. Money well spent, have a feeling that there will be more big money signings in the future which is looking brighter as the days and months go by. New management team is at last settling in and the players are responding, but this play ball technique back to Hinchliffe and then a kick into touch is doing my head in.

Don’t think we’ve seen the best of him and I don’t think we will until next season. He’s come in late in the day and recovering from Covid and we’re playing him out of position.
Whilst Walker has started to provide a bit of ammunition I think MSH/ Minihan and Kitching will provide better service for him long term.
You can see in little flashes that he is a class above though. His touch, way he shields the ball and his movement help to create himself space and I think he links the play well.

He's selfless in what he offers to the team, I think we'd get the most out him playing in and around the box but Reid and Cardwell are doing the business for us there and Maddens ability to get on the ball and make things happen can only be a benefit to us. It shows how good he is that he can mix it up like that.
Maybe playing at a higher level we'll see him revert back to a natural position getting on the end of things in the box but for now it's working well playing deeper.

I expected him to score goals as that is what he’s done all his career. What I didn’t know about him was the work rate and link up play he brings. Could have just come for a final pay day but he wants to win and gives his all for the team:

He's definitely been getting better, and I guess that comes with him getting fitter. I have been frustrated with him playing so deep at times, but I can't deny he is starting to contribute. Much more of a team player than I was expecting too.

Unlike Jevons who arrived in the off-season, I don’t know whether coming mid-season and/or the fanfare surrounding his arrival (“record signing” FFS) and/or his rep as having a bit of a short fuse and/or everything happening on screen instead of in front of spectators has meant the likes of myself have greeted him with a large dose of scepticism, but there’s no denying that our recent form with him in the team has generally been very good!

I expected him to higher up the pitch than he is but certainly looking better in recent games.

I think it’s likely that next season we’ll see less of him playing deep and more in his goal scoring role that he’s played in the past.
Although it has frustrated me at times since he’s signed, the the role he’s playing is part of a team on excellent form so no need to change. He’s certainly proved he’s up for the challenge and not just here for the money which is always a slight concern when these signings happen.

Rusk's done the right thing putting a bit more pace up there. Rooney-Madden-Cardwell was too static. Reid has come back to life the last two games. It was something I called for, more pace in behind and movement to stretch their defence. Often, you have have somebody make a run beyond to go short. Need to stretch the game. Taken Rusk a while but he's starting to notice now.

Looked a class above last night.
Not a problem with him dropping deeper. If he's good at being a bit of a playmaker at this level then fine.

He can play left back for all I care if he keeps assisting and scoring goals. Shame the supporters aren’t allowed in because I reckon he will become a big fans favourite and Paddy and the fans would feed off each other and only get better. Top drawer football league forward.

Have to say given he’s on a 3 year contract it bodes well that his game beyond being a fox in a box looks good enough that he could drop deeper as a number 10 and still be a very good player for us.
I doubt he could do that as well in league 1, but there really isn’t that much difference in the quality in the top half of the national league and league 2.
