Matty is a County legend, always will be. I wish the man nothing but success in whatever he does 👏 Interesting to call someone a legend who had two seasons with us. No problem with that, though. I'd call Paul Jones a legend and he only had one season with us. Matty played more games for us than Chris Marsden (who only had just over two seasons with us), I don't really think length of service is a factor in being a legend, it's what a player achieves. Luis Cavaco definitely is, but he played fewer games than Iain Howard, Mansour Assoumani and Harpal Singh!

I think there's an element of both.
Stephen Gleeson became a hero for one specific moment, when he'd only played 10ish games for us, and would have kept that status even if he never played for us again.
On the other hand, had Sam Minihan left for (eg) Kidderminster after 10 games, he'd have been thought of as 'that bald right back who looked decent - wonder what happened to him'

Could see him ending up at Chester depending on what his relationship was with the managers from Salford.
Although he's supposed to have settled down South.

Matty scored 47 in 98. If he had stayed on here i would have expected him to break 100 goals. If he had stayed here a long time perhaps even the club record. The promotion season definitely earned him to the right to have a go at Northampton. Its just he needed to be starting every game, or have the luck which day Martin McIntosh got when he moved here that both flynn and Gannon got injured and he got a start then never looked back.

He'd played 16 games the season before and been an important part of the 9 game run. Probably a bit unfair to say it's only his play off goal that elevates him. I remember his final game in 06/07, Hereford away, so nearly 18 months before Wycombe, he spent about 15 minutes at the end of the game getting mobbed by fans and shaking hands, we rarely saw reactions like that for loanees back then.

Beckett is still my all-time favourite front man in my time watching County. Half a chance and it would be in the back of the net. 47 goals in 91 appearances in an average/poor team. Could you imagine what damage he could have done with a great squad around him. 👀🤯

Below that awesome with that extra yard could have made it. Big Brett had a problem and the championship was his max level although I don't think Everton gave him a chance. Anywhere outside the 18 yard box Brett looked cumbersome and like a donkey. He was though clinical in front of goal. Heading in at the far post. Everytime!

I feel the same goes for our current number nines, Cardwell and Bennett both do a job at this level but they're not outstanding, that lad at Dagenham with the white hair looked head and shoulders above, it's sad but some players will be left behind.

Ive heard from his family that we have made an enquiries over Stephen Humphrys but hes also had interest from higher up the pyramid. I've got the feeling we will be letting Cardwell go and getting an upgrade or 2 on him and Bennett over the summer.

They go stay down he'll go there. Chorley want big money for cardwell on a free yes I'll have him for a fee no there's better out there.
