Ive heard from his family that we have made an enquiries over Stephen Humphrys but hes also had interest from higher up the pyramid. I've got the feeling we will be letting Cardwell go and getting an upgrade or 2 on him and Bennett over the summer. We would have to pay a fee for Stephen Humphrys as he is contacted until 2022 and as he is not 24 until September, still has to hit his peak, so may be a shrewd signing. I wouldn’t want Cardwell, as he is not prolific enough. Bennett is contracted until next summer and has shown at Hartlepool that he can score goals, given a proper chance here hebmay find the net more regularly but has provided plenty of assists and his height is a nuisance to opposing defenders.

Contraversaly I'd be questioning his ambition signing for us. I get players who are at the tail end of their careers signing for us Madden, Rooney, they might never get such a good contract again. However someone who's 23 dropping a division out just strikes me as cash before ambition. If I were him I'd stay at rochdale try to score 20 goals in league 2 and move higher on a free the following preseason.

Could score 20 goals for us in L2 next season... at his age he should be looking for a div.1 club to score 20 goals for next season in looking to improve himself even further.

We can’t possibly be in for him.

We can’t possibly be in for him. Not yet at least. If we get promoted to L2 and offer better wages than Rochdale, I could see it with the momentum behind the club. But even then it would be a longshot, he's 23 and scored 11 in 29 for a relegated Rochdale side in L1. I'd be surprised if someone bigger than us didn't come in for him if he's available (still under contract for a year). Madden was a shock to me, but made more sense given his age. Anyone know where this rumour has come from and if there's even an ounce of truth to it? Also can he hold-up and head a ball? I feel that's the striker we need (i.e. Cardwell or better) with Madden and/or Reid playing alongside and Bennett as back-up.
