If they want to stay here and accept a more fringe player role then we would be silly to get rid, particularly for Ben and Ash.
I think Keane and Minihan have another year left, again same principle applies that we shouldn’t be willingly looking to move them on.
That of course all changes if they want to play regular football as I suspect /if/ we do go up we will be looking for top quality league 1 standard players.

Pye on loan to Spenny, with Fryers gone, surely Fish on way too, you certainly can’t accuse Challinor of making a meal of this signings lark.

There’s clearly a plan that’s been put in place. So hopefully we come out of the next few weeks even stronger and with the right competitive balance to the squad.

1 and half year deal to June 23. Undisclosed fee.
First-Team manager Dave Challinor said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to get Ryan in the building. He’s someone I’ve worked with previously, so we know each other and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.
“I know what he can add and he knows my expectations and how I work. I feel he developed as a player in the last stint with me, and I really think there’s plenty of scope for more improvement. He’s a powerful, naturally left sided defender who will undoubtedly add to the quality we already have in the group.
“Most importantly, he knows the level, knows what it takes to be successful, has been promoted from this division and can move forward with the club on our journey.”
Director of Football Simon Wilson said:
“Ryan was a noticeable coup as part of an excellent summer recruitment by Port Vale last year.
“Given Port Vale‘s success so far this year, Ryan has had limited opportunities to play but he is a powerful, ball playing left-footed central defender, who at age 25 will be starting to mature and we have got him at a good time.
“He is another in our group that has a promotion from this division, and understands what it takes to win.”
EDIT - This bit of the article is also interesting. Suggests he impressed DCh and did a lot to fight for his place.
''A move to Hartlepool soon followed, with Dave Challinor moving to bring the defender in on a short-term contract in September 2020 following a successful trial at the Club... Johnson was handed a further two contract extensions after continuing to impress at the Club, becoming a mainstay on the left hand side of a back three for the Monkey Hangers as they won promotion on penalties in the play-off final.''
Then I understand he got offered a better deal by Vale.

Very interesting to see a 1 and a half year deal given.
Almost every signing since the Stott era began has been 2 and a half, 3 year deals. A refreshing change imo, means that players have no time to rest on their laurels.
Could be something DC has pushed on, or someone has been in the ear of our DoF.
