Late to the party but just bought Football Manager 22. Not played it in years and f*ck me it's complicated! Not helped that MSH and Croasdale immediately asked to leave and I've got an injury crisis. Some of our players are horrendously underrated. I got the Editor to fiddle around with their stats. Then again Tshimanga is like an average non-league striker too. EDIT - Feels like cheating but you can find a load of out of contract players better than them and I'm not selling MSH et al! Agree it's loads more complicated now. Can almost feel like a second job! I've almost given up and replaced it will reading about County. Delegating to your staff helps but they never get it right!

I've never been able to play FM as County, could never bring myself to take JG's job and it's the same now with Challinor. Started with Newcastle to get used to the new mechanics, and won everything there is to win by 2029. Started an unemployed no badge, no experience journeyman save this week and got the job at one-time conquerers of County, Caernarfon Town. Hoping to end the dominance of TNS and Connah's Quay but it's tricky when you've only got a wage budget of 2k per week. I kicked Rusk out!

Always had you down as a FM player Barmy 😉 It’s a rare post of yours that doesn’t get a formation in there somewhere.

Is Madden closer to a pressing forward, trequartista or shadow striker? One of those that micro-manages everything so is super slow. Still in my first season this year but I played an awful lot of FM19 winning the PL with us. Picked up Iheanacho for free off City and he was immense for me, most of my good players were regens though.

What's your set-up for in-game? Key/Comprehensive highlights or full game?

Think I picked him up in League One and he was my number one striker all the way to the Champions League.

Iheanacho scored a brace for my County when we won the Champions League Final 4-0 against Dortmund. FM17, that was, did 19 years at EP, and Bergara Park was just about to be re-named after me before I left. Newgen Carlos Rodriguez was an absolute god for County, averaged about 35 goals a season and broke 50 a couple of times too. 19 years is a long old time though, felt like a chore in the end. I've never really got on with lower league management though, I always prefer a top flight team preferably around Europa League places; so not the best but plenty of room to grown and challenge. Still playing 21 and have struggled to settle on one save after trouncing the world with Feyenoord (left after nine years and three successive CL's). Started with Benfica the other day, I haven't done a pure youth academy save for a while, so that's something to am for.

Comprehensive/2D when I want to see how a tactic or style is working in pre season and then down to extended when I'm happy with it and don't want to see 37 corners every game!

It’s a lot more time consuming and all involving than it used to be. I tend to delegate all the training etc to coaches and just focus on transfers/ matches. On a pretty good run with Sampdoria at the moment four seasons in. That sounds difficult. Do you also delegate training out? Makes me feel better that I'm not half-arsing it. I tend to take charge of individual training myself, ie I'll train players in the role I want to use them in. Team training though, sod that. Leave it to my staff. Don't delegate your training, your staff won't do match preparation properly. Doing it yourself takes hardly any time at all, I just keep it varied with a focus on who we're playing in the next game. If you want tips on that this guy is/was genius (he quit the content creating scene last year but the videos are still available).

I've played more FM21 than FM22 but I've had good success (good training ratings and players improving) with just doing the basics. Recovery after games, match prep before, higher intensity in the middle and when players are fit (so grade the intensity depending on fitness which I think the game selects automatically). Then variety is the spice of life, which seems to be a ''big one''. Rotating through all the different types - a bit like a school timetable - seems to work well. Will check out that video though!

You can do all that guys...but you know that when the algorithm decides to f*ck you that there ain't a damned thing you can do about it.
It's that part of FM I despise (ie. the pre-ordained results).

I think the last one I played for any length of time was back when it was still called Championship Manager. Tried something like FM2015, and it had become far too overcomplicated. I had a bit of dabble with one of the ipad versions around the same time, and that felt much more like the game I remembered / enjoyed.
Of course, that does assume I'd be playing a video game that isn't called Slay the Spire, which seems utterly unrealistic at the moment.

You're absolutely correct, every time I play a 'big' team in the Champions League I'll lose to a very late goal. Happened to me in the final once (90+1) and most recently today; Benfica (me) v Sevilla, two down after 10 minutes, red card for me early in the second half, we scored three then they scored 90+2 and 90+5! EVERY TIME.

I'm not on commission but this guy talks a lot of sense, his videos are well produced and very informative, I've picked up so many tips. The DNA Philosophy video is well worth a watch, and is a great way of playing. His 'player pockets', 'stars don't matter' and the general tactic building videos have really opened my eyes and if you want to get your teeth into a save and build everything yourself then they're perfect. Your training sounds a lot like mine, although I do a lot of physical work in pre season so the majority of the first XI are match fit and ready to go by the start of the season. Sounds like common sense and apparently it helps the players stay match fit towards the end of the season but I've always avoided the heavy physical work in pre season for fear of injuries or knackering everyone, but I learned a lesson while at Napoli where we were dead on our feet after 3/4 of the season and I was having to do some heavy rotation and using subs before half time, it was a nightmare!
