Gateshead 7 (seven) Hartlepool 1 They've had some low points since we poached DC but that must be up there in a North East Derby against a good Gateshead side but much smaller club. Wouldn't surprise me if there were more Hartlepool fans there tonight. Hartlepool scored first too and was only 1-1 at HT ! they also scored the last đCourtney Duffus subbed on with 15 minutes to go and scored an own goal

Do not know the gate but pools took 1,300 fans. Reminds me of our really dark days of being hammered at grimsby and alfreton and they could be another who on that display might be heading for a spell in the NLN. Again home gates and travelling fan numbers mean sod all in todays football world.

'This is a different kind of football investment' i.e. they haven't got any substantial amount of money to invest? I agree the 1 automatic promotion slot is a real killer in that division but I wouldn't favour 3 automatic spots. Maybe top 2 go up automatically & then a round of playoffs to put forward a NL league side to play the side that finishes 3rd bottom in L2 in a relegation/promotion decider? I suppose the flaw with that idea would be that it would take a Wembley appearance away? In that scenario It wouldn't make sense to go to Wembley for the NL playoff final when there's another deciding game to come & it would be a bit weird for a team that finishes 3rd from bottom to have a Wembley trip? I think a relegation/promotion decider would either have to be over 2 legs or played as a one off at a suitable neutral venue other than Wembley.

The idea of the number of teams promoted or relegated into the NL will vary depending on what team you support. I,d guess fans of the team finishing 3rd bottom of league 2 and the one that finishes runner up to chesterfield will have different views on this number. Plus those who,d say it could be us next season.

The idea of, say, Bromley playing Barnet at Wembley is daft, tbh. 10-15k max attendance? Even worse Gateshead playing Halifax when both have been there before and these are no trains home for fans. We have got into a situation now where players have played at wembley but never at old trafford, anfield or any other big premier league ground. Same with the supporters now for so many teams. In just over 30 years we have been there 5 times and most present day County fans have never seen us play at a big premier clubs present home.

Would of much rather played the Carlisle game at somewhere like Anfield or Goodison would of made life much easier for both sets of supporters & would of been a better atmosphere. I accept Wembley is exciting for the younger fans though & for lower or non league players who get the chance to play there.

Be very interesting though to pick a random NL side and find out how many players have played there and how many fans have attended a game there even if its not with their current side. As for grounds i have seen County play more at wembley than most other grounds away from EP and there is only a handful i have seen us play more at.

Shame heâs not such a fan of paying his taxes in the UK.
