Curzon drawing but winning 2-1 on yellow cards. Cannot see this going 90 minutes without a red one being shown. Half time in extra time, still 0-0.

Curzon lost on penalties. Tough that. I quite like Curzon as a club. Always looked after us on our visits there. Fingers crossed for Alty to go up too. Another decent club and one that should have had its time in the FL already but for the shame that was reelection.

True that Alty deserve their chance as far less deserving sides have gained their EFL status over the years. They were unlucky years back by a single vote over rochdale where a chairman failed to arrive to vote for them.

'The shame that was re-election', saved our league status on at least 3 occasions in the early 70's, & perhaps our very existence, as i doubt if we would have come back if we'd gone down, because there was a general apathy in the town about the club & we certainly didn't have the fanbase that we had in the NL/NLN

Apart from possibly barrow i do not think any club that were not re elected that did not deserve it. Most deserved a second or third chance and we have proved that giving a club one was worthwhile. Going down in the present system can easily finish a club for years as torquay have found out and having another club in that area is far better than having yet another greater london outfit taking their place with lower gates but a richer owner.

You can definitely number us as a club who deserved it, at that time, numerous missed tax payments, players wages not being paid...standing on the Popside one friday night, not knowing whether the players would run out, as they'd threatened to strike. If it hadn't been for Paul Hince & his 'SOS Save our Stockport' campaign in the MEN, which alerted Freddie Pye to the problems at the club, we could very well have disappeared all together

It was the era of the basket case clubs though where some were actually worse than us. They had one thing in common as they were all northern based from the era of the north being the hotbed of football in the early quarter of the 20th century. Rochdale who upped their actual gates they published, workington, hartlepools, halifax plus the others that lost their league status in that era. Now its the SE thats the hotbed of the game with these new teams replacing the ones who had a past but are going to have a more difficult future even if their gates are still higher than these new age clubs who replaced them that we do not like.

Words of sticking it where the sun doesn,t shine comes to mind. If this does come off i hope fans treat it was more contempt than many do for the FA Trophy. The less turn up the lower the chance of seeing B teams in any league but their own.
