WTF does "Big Dunc" know about the National League or managing a club in it? It needs to be a strong personality who has good knowledge of the level of football we find ourselves at. Challinor fits the bill but would he leave Hartlepool to come to us? Whoever we get (and there's not a cat in Hell's chance it'll be Jim) this next appointment could be our most crucial ever. Big Dunc knows all.

There is one obvious name for the job, but it will involve a lot of humble pie from Stott. I would be immensely impressed and surprised in equal measure if he made the right decision and brought JG back.
Last chance saloon for Simon Wilson. If he gets this one wrong (if he is still allowed a say), he will be toast.

John Askey would be my pick. Local, currently out of work and managed to win this league on a shoestring budget with macc. Wouldn’t surprise me if we end up with someone that has no experience at this level again though. And failed everywhere else. Not for me.

There are some f*cking wild suggestions being thrown around all over the show here. I think people are getting carried away and have forgotten we're in non-league.

If not Gannon then Keith Hill or Challinor seem the best kind of fit to me. Both proven. At lower league/none league level.

One name I’ve not seen mentioned is Brian Barry Murphy. Relegated in the end with Rochdale but they were punching well above their weight and playing a fantastic brand of football. With the squad we have we could play some attractive stuff too.
The football was so good that he’s now head of city’s academy, not sure if he’d leave having only gone in the summer but worth a thought and one I’d welcome.

That's a good shout, he's also linked with the Cardiff job which is a surprise. I'd be happy with Daryll McMahon or Pete Wild but first choice for me is ex Newport manager Mike Flynn.

I think Suedehead should just tell us. Agreed. He's lumping bets on left right centre just so he can afford the last 2 Argentina shirts I have....
