Broady out in straight sets - didn't quite do enough against a good opponent, but great effort to make the 3rd Round.
Pity no ranking points for it with the Russia farce, could have made a massive difference to his career.

Hope he progresses today to the 4th round. Similar to when Blossoms or Foden are spoken about, then Stockport is often mentioned and I like that...although I know some won't like his choice of football team, or the middle name his parents gave him. It'll be Andy Murray stuff again..enters the court a British hero, and if he loses then he's a Scottish prick. Anybody know what his connections with the town are apart from being born there. Was it a move away quickly after birth or was he brought up here as well.

He and his sister Naomi (also a professional tennis player) went to Priestnall secondary school in Heaton Mersey. He's definitely a Stockport boy, albeit with an unfortunate choice of football team.

Possibly at the time of him growing up we were not the draw we are at the moment. Cannot really blame any kid looking to support an out of town club the state we were. Any kid that did and were not pushed into it deserve a medal.

Rooting for this Russian girl to win Wimbledon just for the sheer awkwardness of it.

Is North American “soccer” enough of a different sport? (I didn’t want to start a new thread just to share this masterpiece)

Not seen many posts about World Athletics, but got to say Laura Muir is a class Athlete / Sportswoman.

Not seen many posts about World Athletics, but got to say Laura Muir is a class Athlete / Sportswoman. And topped overnight by Jake Wightman beating Ingerbrittson (Sp ?) to gold in the Mens 1500. And his father was the stadium announcer for the race !

Resurrecting this thread because of what's been happening in baseball: the Tampa Bay Rays (or Devil Rays as I still prefer to think of them) have started this season winning 12 from 12 - only the third team to do that in over one hundred years. I know that there's a Rays a fan here. They were supposed to have an average season per most predictions; but there are of course still 150 games to go. It has been a relatively easy schedule for them so far (opponents have included the Tigers, Nationals and Athletics for nine of those games), but nevertheless they have looked impressive. They've hit 30 home runs already, and pitched four shut-outs. All on the third-lowest payroll in MLB.

I once went to watch the Chicago Cubs, I didn't have a clue what was happening but I loved the atmosphere.

I hope to get up there for a game this season, and should also drive to Cincinnati (my closest MLB team). Also planning a West Coast trip later this year, so hope to catch the Padres in San Diego.

It is a thing of beauty and one of the nicest stadiums I've ever been to, I like the old stadiums with a bit of charm, when I followed England at Italia 90 of all the stadiums we visited I liked Bolgna best, there's just something really nice about these old places.

Do their fans have a meltdown on a Saturday night if they lose a game?

Agreed. And there was a period where teams moved to awful modern, bland soulless (some times multi-purpose) stadia after mid-century and through to the '90s. The Rays' stadium is a case in point, unfortunately - commonly agreed to be one of the worst stadia in baseball. Fortunately, more recent ballparks have been designed in more of a classic or retro style and incorporated some quirks: like Petco Park, where the 100-year-old Western Metal Supply Co. building was integrated into the stadium rather than being torn down.
