Just our of curiosity how much do people think we paid for Bailey then? I wouldn't class what I said as insulting to him. He didn't want to be at Salford and he had 6 months left of his contract. He's not someone who's going to cost alot of money especially as he'd scored 0 goals in 22 games at Salford last season playing as a RW. Teams at league 2 don't spend much money on transfer fees and that's even evident by the money we've spent on transfer fees. Between £45-55k I reckon. £33,909.99 plus add ons - I could elaborate but they are elaborate.🤣🥳🍻

I've said elsewhere that I think the squad as it stands is good enough for playoffs at least in L1. So I don't think we need to go daft; a couple of decent signings could see us right up there. And I'm pretty sure the powers that be won't be thinking of a few years of consolidation simply because we're ahead of the seven year Championship target. You take your chances when you get them, and I've always thought there's a good chance of challenging again when you piss the league below. I've said before, look what we did when we got out of this league under DB. We "only" finished 2nd, and were a result off finishing 5th. Yet for the following 3 seasons we were far from only consolidating - we challenged in each year. And whilst Elwood did authorise spending, it was nowhere near the level we're doing it now. No matter what they might say in terms of expectation management, I don't believe for one minute we're setting up for consolidation next year. Earlier in this thread when pressed on who I think we should get rid, I said they are all good players, it somewhat muddies the waters, although it doesn’t take too much thought to consider the players who might move on. I agree that even without any changes (which wont happen) we’ll do pretty well. We never really saw what this squad is actually capable of due to the worst and most consistent injury ‘crisis’ in the club’s history, but even with that we comfortably won the league.

Yep you're right. Just done a bit of googling and according to Simon Wilson it's a 7 year plan to get to the championship so I guess there might (and should) be a bit of patience and building up the young players now we're in league one as we are ahead of schedule. It took 7 years for Portsmouth to get to the championship after winning the league 2 title True, but as I’ve pointed out repeatedly on here, Luton Town breezed through League 1 at the first attempt finishing Champions with 94 points during their rapid rise from NL to Premier League; making points based on selectivity and omission is a dangerous game. It was the southern Hatter’s most straightforward promotion of all.

The Leicester player who scored the goals on Tuesday appears to be training with the first team.

Based on his post-match interview following the Accrington game, I don't get the impression Powell is here for consolidation next season. We're on our way.

No matter what they might say in terms of expectation management, I don't believe for one minute we're setting up for consolidation next year. League One was a very different division. We had the likes on pne and Burnley who were getting 7-8k as opposed to our 4-5k. We're competing with the likes of Bolton, Barnsley, sheff wed who as a result of their good gates will start off way ahead on budgets. Unlike 96/97 when Bury got up with us we're going to have to be punching well above our weight to go up automatically. To really compete we'll need ground improvements to drive those revenues making us more competitive. nO its the same for me as at the end of next season you can still rank sides as between the 44th and 68th best clubs in the whole of english football depending on where they finish. Names and the history of clubs mean sod all in the end and i,d guess now that the clubs with the smaller budgets will use them much wiser than the big names will do and compete against them quite well.

Barnsley only get a couple of thousand more than us and the other's have huge debts, we'll be mid table wages wise but we've got a good squad that won't need a lot adding, we get another half a million from the league and increased TV revenue, we'll do well next year.

Exactly, and we'll have an equal chance of beating or losing against exeter and shrewsbury than we'll have against the big names of the league.

Rumoured (ages ago I'll admit) striker Callum Hendry has had a 1 year extention activated at Salford
