Pissing about with the St. Georges cross on the England shirt now in what Nike calls 'a playful update'. It's our national flag, it doesn't need a playful update, leave it alone. Are they doing this for any other nations in the tournament? Peter Saville put a load of multicoloured crosses on there in 2011 and nobody batted an eyelid. Of course, GB News didn't exist back then which probably explains it. Even the labour party are onto all this and doubt them and their supporters are avid watches of GB news. What next the 3 lions being altered for something less fierce or there is a slight connection to the hated ones, Millwall fc.

Are they doing this for any other nations in the tournament? I don't understand why they have done this. Presumably the FA have signed this off which puts them in an awkward position. The price concerns me more- £85 for the "stadium" version or £125, and the kids versions aren't much cheaper. Just don't buy it.Its a rip off. Ah, so *that's* why they've done it - to deflect the media coverage from the extortionate pricing

George Cross aside, I quite like both shirts, but especially the navy one with the gold crest

Load of confected nonsense. As noted above, similar messing was done previously and no-one gave a toss. But nothing matters now if you can't create a culture war battle out of it, so here we are.
The cost is the disgrace. Although as someone who wouldn't be buying it if had the trad Cross of St. George on it and cost 30quid, my opinion is probably worth less than nothing here.

I remember when I jokingly suggested on the old board that they be replaced by door mice, as they're actually native to the country and using lions was cultural appropriation; the frothing that went on was astounding.

You're supposed to admin a board out of love for the community, Nik, not so you can carry on trolling it

Doremice would be much more appropriate than lions given the typical England men’s football performances over the last few decades!

Unicorns as most England exciting performanes are fiction only seen in the eyes of the pundits.

Unite everyone in talking about it, so that sweet sweet cash keeps rolling in I suspect.

It’s literally some colours on a shirt.
I’ve seen people moaning about rainbows but it’s only dark blue, blue and purple. Never seen a rainbow like that before.
“What was my grandad like?”
“Yeah he was great. Wasted a lot of time in his life pointlessly moaning about colours on a shirt he was never going to buy for £120 anyway but other than that, a decent bloke”

I accept it is more likely they thought it would help raise the profile of a stupidly expensive bit of material and weren't too fussed about any other consequences.

I'm not bothered about the cross much but it seems a daft and pointless design choice that was bound to provoke a reaction. What is baffling, though, scrolling through some headlines, is the usual outrage factories complaining (to rally their troops) that it's "woke" and "virtual signalling", without explaining what's supposed to be "woke" about it, or what virtue is being signalled.
As others have noted, the most objectionable part - not that I ever buy shirts myself - is the price of replicas.

The nearest thing to woke I can see is that the colours of the horizontal lines are [kind of like] those on the bisexual flag, albeit in the wrong order. Generally, corporate woke stuff like this appeals to as many marginalised identities as possible, such as by using the rainbow flag with the BLM+trans chevrons. Maybe Nike decided to adopt bi erasure as their CSR cause? Just goes to show that 'woke' means f*ck all to these people. It's just a catch-all term for things they hate. Like 'communism'

Like 'communism' The purple colour is a reference to the away shirt, I believe. The away shirt is purple as it's seen as a mix between the blue and red colours regularly used for England away shirts over the years. The discourse over it all makes me want to claw my own eyes out.
