Of the feathered variety. Just sat in the back garden, after work, with a beer and Tms whirring away in the background and marveling at the fauna on our doorstep here in god's own. Within 30 minutes, two Buzzards soaring, a flock of Parakeets, a Rook, several Jackdaws, a Goldfinch, a noisy Wood Pidgeon, Sparrows, a Blackbird and a very large Shithawk (Lesser black-backed gull, I think). Being reasonably close to the coast and having the Peak district on our doorstep does bless us with some pretty amazing flora and fauna. Ducks for cover from the puns!

the bit of the Mersey around Burnage rugby / Parrs Wood is always worth a wander for birds too.
Last few weeks, there have been a load of sand martins, a heron or two and some swifts. Quite often see a cormorant, but not for a few weeks now, and no sign of the egret that was there for a month or two last year either.
Buzzard eating a dead pigeon in the alley behind my house a few weeks back as well.

Dippers nest under Cheadle bridge every year. Always good to see the kingfisher down on the river.

We've had a song thrush singing its heart out at the bottom of the garden for past few weeks. Amazing how well buzzards have done in recent years, and red kites are starting to appear in the Peak District now too!

I'm a big birdwatcher. When I was in Stockport, Woodland park along the river was great. Usually dippers, grey wagtail, treecreeper, great spotted woodpecker, kingfisher and occasionally peregrine falcon on Pear Mill or on the pylons by the substation. Would stand with my binoculars watching, with most people walking past totally oblivious.
Of course up here is very different. Few small birds but loads of skylarks, hoodie (hooded crows), snipe, curlew, oystercatcher. Hen harrier and merlin quite common. The worst are starlings, love to nest under car bonnets and regularly cause engine fires. Loved my brothers car when he was up last month. Missed the passing killer whales yesterday though.

They definitely seem to be creeping further north.

Love to sit in the garden in the evening this time of year, Usually with a glass of wine or a nice ale. We get plenty of songbirds and as the evening draws in the last one singing is always the blackbird. Sometimes it's the most simple things that make life good.

Had a woodpecker return for the last two years now, seems to enjoy the conifers for some reason.

There's an app called Merlin by Cornell University which can help identify birds through sight or sound. Highly recommended if, like myself, you are not yet adept at discerning the different songs.

Living partly up the pennines you see numerous different birds. Know a few species but not as many as i should really. Know a lot are quite common but i,m sure programmes like Springwatch, Summeratch etc. would have a wider interest if they did show the antics of the species the majority see day in day out. We have a tame robin we feed on the walk past Damems railway station and a pheasant that knows the days of the week when we feed it going up to the moors to take the dogs out. Always waiting on the 3 regular days but missing if we decide to go up on another. Being called a birdbrain is a complement really.
