Loads of herons about on the Peak Forest canal this morning. Regardless of how much I see them, they’re always a magnificent sight. Proper prehistoric vibes. I get my steps in along the Macc canal and see them all the time, they're still impressive even when seeing them daily. There are a few Grey Herons at Abney Hall. And one decimated my pond (in Edgeley) a few years ago. On Abney, it always makes me laugh that the noisiest bird is the smallest (wren)

Well that is a new one on me. Just spied a Cricket walking up the house wall over my post-work garden bevvy. Never seen one in this country before, actually never seen one before anywhere. A lone cricket or have any of the rest of you seen a cricket in Stockers?

Saw and heard a couple of grasshoppers or crickets (never know the difference) in the garden as the grass was so long.

Yeah, love the sight of a heron, but saw one on Sunday with a fish in its mouth. Had mixed feelings incase it came out of someones garden pond rather than the canal or somewhere public.

We had a few grasshoppers last year, but I've done a no mow May, June, July & August this year 😁 and we've now got loads of them!

The bird has got to eat and I’ve always thought people with ponds are weird.

Recent bird noncing - I went to Bempton Cliffs with my old man last week after the cricket at Scarborough got rained off (I know WHAT a day out).
All the puffins had gone but seeing thousands of gannets nesting with their chicks on tiny ledges was very impressive.

f*ck em. The bird has got to eat and I’ve always thought people with ponds are weird. Prefer the herons to have them than sodding cats. people with ponds aren't weird. It's a brilliant hobby and attracts lot's of wildlife, not just Heron's. Lot's of humane ways to discourage Heron's too.

Lot's of humane ways to discourage Heron's too. Sorry. I’d like to rescind my comment which in hindsight is based on a sample of only two people I know who have ponds.

I wonder if a Heron tastes like chicken 🤔 I’ve always been under the impression that predator meat is grim. But then tuna - fresh stuff, not the tinned nonsense we get here - is by far my favourite fish?
