It is a shame because there are a lot of new posters on this board, myself included, who don't post on marions for whatever reason so had everybody moved over here we would have had a more broad and diverse group contributing.

It's a shame that it looks like the old board is going to be the one which prevails, the people against this board will claim it's because of the format, which is utter bull in my opinion. It's all down to the content, the more active and 'interesting' posters (to avoid the whole issue of accusations of cliques, ITK and toxic attitudes to certain people) haven't moved over to here. If the change was forced through and the old board shut down there would be no issue. The format on Marionsboard is archaic and a completely defunct style of message board. I still can't get my head around how people can prefer a board which doesn't sort posts in time chronological order and stifles discussion by having relevant topics bumped down by drivel like "what did you eat for tea". Given as this thread mentioned some feedback, just my two cents in relation to this board: 1. The border between, at least on my monitors, seems a bit too big. It creates a lot of dead-space coupled with the avatars. I have no issue with avatars on forums, but they're quite large on this forum compared to the relatively small 'box/header' for board content. Merely aesthetics is what I take issue with. 2. Maybe look to increase the number of posts allowed on a page before it creates a new one. I've seen a few people who have migrated from Marionsboard complaining of being the 'last' poster on a page, having say, 30-50 replies to a page (for example The Football Forum is using 50 replies) may remedy this to some extent. Not to mention the psychology of seeing a thread with 8+ pages compared to what would maybe only 2-4 pages with a higher post to page layout. I appreciate that both Suedehead and Terry will be pinned back by Proboards limitations, I have no idea if this sort of thing can be customised within Proboards or if such a Proboard skin exists. Nonetheless the pro boards format is by far the best message board software short of the hideously expensive Invision Powerboard. Cheers for that, good post . We probably could reduce the size of the avatars and the borders but it'd need me to sit down and fiddle with the CSS. At the moment the thought of that makes me want to kick myself in the face. I'll wait til I get back to work and do it on their time instead . When we launched this I think the number of posts per page was about 30 but it was reduced to what it is now. I can't remember why but I'm pretty sure a few complained it was taking too long to get to the end of the page. Whenever I've used other boards I can't really remember one ever having more than 20 posts per page. 15-20 is the convention, isn't it?

iirc, the main reason this board was created was the fact Terry and Suede had no protection on the old YB against tw*ts who wanted to throw their legal weight around . . . absolutely spot on, no way should the owners be liable for the drivvel that members wish to post . . . for that reason alone we should ALL have moved to this board and made the best of it . . . but for the old YB to remain is absolutely mind boggling? there's a legal threat hanging over the owners or there isn't . . . if there is it's a no brainer, all the rest is insignificant mumbo jumbo . . . 'i don't like this, i don't like that' . . . who gives a hoot . . . bottom line is the owners have to be legally protected in offering a messageboard, simples . . . right, must get back to the pool with a cold beer ;P

To clarify, there wasn't a specific legal threat at the time, but there had been a couple in the past and it left us open to action as all we had was a username. On here we've got email and IP addresses, plus a few other toys to track people down. scarf then piped up saying we (me and Terry) were out of order trying to shut down the old board because had paid to keep it open for the next 9 months. So he wanted to keep that open as a board for those who wouldn't even give this a try. He's now disappeared and hasn't posted for months. At the time I thought it was wrong to have two running side by side and it should have been all or nothing, but was trying to be diplomatic about it. Now, that's proved to be right. Posters are split but the same issues still remain. If anyone posts something libellous about McKnight or whoever on marions, all we have is a username. That's it. Very little protection and it means having to spend time monitoring it because the lad who wanted to keep it open as his little thing has pissed off. Weirdo. On here, if somebody says something OTT there is an report function which comes straight through to us as an email and it can be dealt with in minutes. Similar with new users. On the old board somebody has to email, then we have to go into the back end and sign them up manually then email them back with their details. Same when somebody wants to change their password. On here, it's all automated and all we have to do is approve. Takes 30 seconds. There's so many other features that just makes this board easier and more secure, and it's a shame it won't take off because a handful of people were unwilling to even give it a try.

i'll be honest suede, i'm not a big luvver of this site, but as i said before, you guys are the one's in the firing line and that's wrong, plain and simple and for that reason alone the other board should be shut down and we'll have to put up with this one . . . it'll be fine after a while, people will get used to it, myself included . . . if scarf wants to protect his donation on the other board then he can take ownership if anything goes wrong . . . nothing against scarf but the main reason this board was created still hasn't disappeared and no one should be held accountable for others actions/words . . .

Yeah, I did some work with CSS when I used to run a board a while ago and it's always a pain. Not so much hard, just really frustrating. I actually didn't think of the fact people will be using this board on mobiles a lot which is a valid point in relation to the amount of posts per page. I think the actual average per post depends on how large the forum is; I mainly use large boards where they have settled on around 40-50 replies due to the activity. For me personally 30 is a relative sweet spot but this sort of thing is just semantics and personal preference I suppose. Hope you guys can stick with this board, as Bigmouth said before it's brought a lot of new people (myself included) who lurked/read Marionsboard but never had any interest in joining due to the nature of the board. Maybe down the line in a few months there might be a bit more movement and something can happen to kickstart this board into the true potential. Always going to be confused about the love for the old layout; I think for me this thread proves why this format is king. The fact you can still discuss and debate a topic even though days have passed, a pretty stark contrast to MB where it's buried and dead within a few hours.

CSS isn't a pain Maybe for you I suppose but for me it's one of the most annoying and my least favourite language. Glad I no longer have to work with it that much anymore.

I liked some of the songs they did.
Are we talking about the same CSS?

As for the board, I don't see a major problem here.
Of course it would be better if all the eggs were in the same basket and people who post on one clubbed together with the other. But they won't. They won't even give it a little try. I can only speculate that their reasons for this is they fear being proved wrong. And the only people talking about a them vs us thing is a few posters over there.
As it is, there's that place and this place. Both serve their purpose, I post on both. Not ideal but better than when that board was the only real option.
I know there was the CBS board and CH but neither are that busy.

CSS3 has lots of cool stuff and actually makes life easier. The efects are good, the fact you can animate with just a few lines of script is pretty cool.

I'm glad my spell as a web designer was brief.
The minute a tutor described a piece of code to me as "good old plain, vanilla flavoured HTML" I knew I was in the wrong game.
That and properly falling fast asleep on Visual Basic courses.

I know a few are being stubborn but most have given it a try albeit briefly. I don't visit this site as much as I should and have just been trawling through a few posts and this one caught my eye... I prefer the old board, for all it's faults - it's much quicker to get to the information especially if you are on a phone - I find this one hard work. The avatars are pointless and just mean more scrolling imho some of the comments about other posters aren't exactly encouraging people to come either, and while don't want to go over it again in detail, how the migration to a new board was handled was poor in hindsight (appreciate it's not easy, but it all felt rushed and not exactly reasoned through)
