Sympathy and arse licking aren't the same thing. Right, the difference here being that you think some fans are going overboard with their feelings towards Wimbledon and it goes beyond the necessary level of sympathy you think there should be? And you think it should stop because some player acted like a bellend? Yes, if you want to put it simply.
It's a good example, not a sole or overriding example, where it's not necessarily "Wimbledon great, MK Dons bad" in every situation. Like every situation, things should be taken as you find them. I think some of our supporters and some football supporters in general are too close to Wimbledon's arse to see this.

But I fail to see anyone in this thread or even this fanbase whose Wimbledon 'arse-licking' goes beyond wishing them well as a club due to what they've endured. Nobody's making excuses for one of their players acting like a bellend either, so I'm not sure where you're seeing all this 'arse-licking'.

So I don't know why you'd think my post was about people on here when not one person on this forum had mentioned the incident (in a positive or negative way) before my original post.
I've seen a few on social media loving this Harry Pell thing and raving about the great "shithousery" of it. Pretty much all because it's a Wimbledon player kicking the ball into the MK Dons supporters. Arse-licking is a slang term and in my opinion, it fits it well. Too close to someone's arse to see their misdeeds.

MK Dons are automatically bad by virtue of being a club that shouldn’t exist, that is my view and won’t change unless they end up relegated to the level of a new club, or at least the level MK City were at before they went bust. The forgotten Milton Keynes club that Winkleman also killed with his arrogance. That doesn’t automatically mean that everything AFC does is perfect. Harry Pell is a nob for example. The dire straits Kingstonian have ended up in being another - although speaking as someone who lives near Kingston that’s not as cut and dry as Wimbledon and Chelsea bad either. Despite that I am still always going to enjoy them beating Franchise, being above Franchise in a table, and simply for existing at a level that football authorities said they couldn’t. As I said before (in a post you seem to have ignored) it’s more about football fans versus money men and authorities of football much much more than any specific clubs involved. Wimbledon fans were told that keeping Wimbledon in Wimbledon was “not in the wider interests of football”. As a supporter of a smaller “local” club in a busy catchment area for professional teams I find that a sickening statement that could be applied just as equally to us, or any of the other Greater Manchester (and I use that term specifically) sides outside of the two that carry Manchester in their name. The football authorities at the time decided that Milton Keynes “deserved” a professional football by virtue of it being a big conurbation without one. So they airlifted a pre existing one in. That should send a shudder down the spine of every loyal match going football fan regardless of any feelings about Wimbledon. As for “arse licking” as you see it might be you projecting your own negative feelings towards Wimbledon on to what you perceive from others. All I am doing is enjoying football fans winning over the FA’s dreadful experiment of Franchising in English football.

Then I don’t really know where you’re getting arse licking from. You said in a previous post that you’ve seen people on Twitter bigging up Harry Pell’s shithousery but that’s just Twitter. I could imagine certain County fans being on board with that if it involved two completely unrelated clubs. I wouldn’t take anything posted by anyone on Twitter particularly seriously. You already had the angle of thinking there was too much of love for them before that incident came to light.

I've always felt the sympathy towards Wimbeldon's plight was a bit much, considering they weren't exactly a thriving club at the time from a fan interest perspective, and felt that some who cried foul possibly hadn't set foot near a Wimbledon game in years? And never got the anger towards MK Dons fans specifically? a professional team turns up on your doorstep then why not go and watch? (and consider these aren't long standing supporters that understand the depth of feeling involved in these things)

There will be a good number of fans at both clubs who were born after all this happened. Unless the rules are changed its not going to happen again, its not exactly local to us either so why the fuss season after season bringing history back up. Lots of older fans will never take to MK but over the years younger ones will even if they support other clubs.

It's the by-product of a property deal for Asda-Walmart, the world's largest retailer. There were three Tesco stores in the town IIRC, Asda wanted to break that local dominance by building Europe's largest supermarket, but planning laws stopped them. Persevering with it, the planning rules did allow for a supermarket if it was part of a project that benefits the local community, such as a football stadium, IKEA then came on board willing to stump up millions for some of the land so they could build there too, and the project was ready to go. But to justify the big stadium there had to be a team to play in it, and MK City were playing in the 10th tier, so they chose to nick one instead. They sniffed round a few. Wimbledon had ground shared since the Taylor report and were in their final season of parachute payments, so they were particularly vulnerable. How much sympathy should there have been?
